Meet Kiara Aguillon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiara Aguillon.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kiara. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Six years ago, I made the move to LA from Portland, OR, a hopeful young graduate and like many, without a job in sight. Through a leap of faith and a passion for popular culture (and shopping), I happened upon started my start in eCommerce partnerships. My job was to manage relationships with popular brands and media outlets; matchmaking media who had the need to write about cool products and the brands that sought to be discovered. From the jump, I knew this was the right fit for me as my background in retail had taught me the ins and outs of brand. From operations to the end-customer acquisition, learning the eCommerce landscape came naturally and everyday was an opportunity to expand my business knowledge, learn to optimize and keep up with the ever-changing landscape.

In my time doing this, I worked with publications like US Weekly, The Skimm, Shape magazine, and television shows like Access Hollywood, Celebrity Page, The Real, and many more. I worked with all sorts of brands, from Net-A-Porter to brands you see on ‘Shark Tank’. Everyday was a meaningful journey of discovering new products and brands and learning more about the amazing founders with inspiring stories.

Another facet of making the product come to life was finding talent to appear on shows or sell products on social media. Learning the power of social media, influencers, celebrities, and more was another exciting part of business, but for me, it was about the personalities behind this all. Working with folks like Ashley Iaconnetti, Tina Lawson, Shay Mitchell, and some pretty popular TikTokers has been a fun experience and given me a lot of insight and inspiration on the industry.  Having the right spokesperson for your brand is one of the most important and rewarding parts of an overall marketing strategy.

Through my time in this field, I’ve learned a LOT about the eCommerce, influencer, and digital media landscape. Most recently honing in on digital strategy and multicultural diversification because the future of digital is evolving and everpresent especially given our current circumstances. It’s important for me to note that many of the things I’ve learned were not something I learned in college and to the young people reading this, I advise you more than anything to find a young mentor in the field. It is my greatest passion to give back and teach those who are actively seeking a career in this landscape. I open myself up to that opportunity. From the customer acquisition journey to activating on digital profitably, while it’s easy to pay any influencer do work for you, I’ve fine-tuned an approach that has great reward for the brands I work with. I’m really proud of my experience and so very grateful to those I have worked with and learned from along the way. I look forward to the ways the entertainment and marketing industry is evolving. We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not a smooth road, and not easy by any means. My roadmap is what I describe to be a little ‘millennial’ in the fact that I hopped around a bit. I am better for it with my experience and am always loyal to my employers but the landscape to getting where I wanted to be and the company uncertainties I faced along the way required me to move around and be nimble. It was a challenge knowing what the ‘right’ thing to do was when faced with big decisions early on in my career. Through a process of confidence and great mentorship, I had the answers I needed right in front of me. I hope that others reading this know it’s completely normal to not be sure what the right choice is. The most important thing you can do is surround yourself with positive influences and follow your gut instinct.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Right now, I am consulting independently for brands and creators. I’m best known for large-scale partnerships (aka knowing the right talent for the job, creative guidelines and campaign execution) as well as eCommerce for influencers and digital media strategy. I work with a team that is talented in ad strategy, social growth, and PR so I’m able to provide full-service management to my clients.

My relationships with my brands, creators and colleagues is what I’m most proud of. That’s the most rewarding part of my career and it in turn yields great results. The ability to execute campaigns that offer a positive ROI and are forward-thinking is something else that sets me apart from the other folks doing what I do out there.

What were you like growing up?
I was a true girly-girl growing up and far more outgoing than I am now. I was really into fashion and I loved to dress up. I would also put on productions where I sang and acted to an audience of cats or my family. As an only child, I loved being the one to make others laugh and never liked being alone.

In high school, I was actively involved in drama and super-duper social with so many amazing friends. I was easygoing, ambitious, and studious which I think helped me early in my adult life.

I think my friends would tell you I was a dreamer by nature and always aimed high in my endeavors, that hasn’t changed.

I loved traveling growing up and always doing something new, that is also something that hasn’t changed 🙂
