Meet Katie Peters of BeachMama Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Peters

Hi Katie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I earned my Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2013 from the Western University of Health Sciences and started my career in orthopedics. A few years in, I faced my hip injury, and with some encouragement from a coworker, I sought out pelvic floor therapy. The impact was immediate—my hip pain improved drastically, and I realized that the pelvic floor was often the missing piece for patients whose conditions seemed resistant to other treatments. This discovery led me to pursue pelvic floor training with Herman and Wallace, and transitioning to pelvic floor therapy allowed me to see my patients’ needs more fully and make a meaningful impact on their pain and quality of life.

After having my own child, I experienced firsthand how pelvic floor therapy could significantly enhance comfort and improve birth outcomes both before and after pregnancy. Inspired by this, I founded BeachMama Wellness in 2021. Since then, we’ve grown from a concierge service into a full-service wellness destination. In 2023, I also co-founded Her Integrated Wellness, a comprehensive center for women offering acupuncture, functional medicine, fitness classes, mental health and nutrition support, and educational resources designed to support women’s health at every stage of life.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
When I decided to start my own business, I envisioned independence, flexibility, and financial success. With three little boys, it seemed like the perfect way to balance work and family—creating my schedule, controlling my caseload, and more. As the business grew, I realized I had significant tunnel vision. Owning a business offers flexibility but requires you to always be ‘on.’ Managing employees, patients, and a wellness center as a mom has been an ongoing balancing act. Striving to be both a successful businesswoman and a present parent has easily been my biggest challenge.

Our practice is a small, boutique clinic that operates out of network with all insurance providers. Navigating this model has been one of the biggest challenges in building BeachMama Wellness, especially since our main competitors follow insurance-based models, which can naturally seem more appealing. After all, why pay out of pocket when insurance can cover what appears to be the “same” service?

But the heart of BeachMama’s approach is that we’re not offering the same service as larger clinics. We provide hour-long, one-on-one sessions that allow us to truly understand each individual’s unique needs, delivering the kind of care that women genuinely need and deserve. While we lose some potential patients due to the insurance barrier, those who walk through our doors quickly feel the difference. The feedback we receive from them is gratifying and reaffirms our commitment to this model.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
BeachMama Wellness is a pelvic floor therapy practice. We holistically treat pelvic health and normalizes self- care during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Our practice provides one on one care in hour long sessions. This allows us to truly get to know you and your body and implement a treatment plan that makes a difference quickly and significantly.

BeachMama Wellness is a pelvic floor therapy practice focused on holistic pelvic health and the normalization of self-care during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. We provide personalized, one-on-one care in hour-long sessions, allowing us to deeply understand your body and create a treatment plan that delivers quick, meaningful results.

We want women to understand that pelvic floor therapy is an essential form of self-care. You don’t—and shouldn’t—have to wait for issues to arise to seek support. Ideally, we work with every pregnant woman starting at 12 weeks, supporting them throughout pregnancy to prevent dysfunction, keep them active, and prepare them for birth. Postpartum, we recommend a 6-week checkup where we assess vital areas that may go unaddressed in a typical OB visit, including diastasis recti, core strength, prolapse, and pelvic floor mobility and strength.

It’s also important to know that anytime is the right time to start pelvic floor therapy—it’s never too late. Many women assume that issues like leakage or discomfort are just ‘part of life’ after childbirth or as they age, but pelvic floor dysfunction is never normal, even if it’s common in certain stages of life.

In addition to pelvic floor therapy, we offer birth preparation and fitness classes, as well as free 20-minute consultations.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
As a naturally risk-averse person, I prefer having a sense of the outcomes, so starting my own business was a giant leap. I left the stability of working in a clinic to launch a concierge service, driving around LA County to treat patients in their homes. Through this journey, I’ve realized that small risk leads to small rewards. Establishing BeachMama Wellness, hiring employees, and opening Her Integrated Wellness has pushed me beyond my comfort zone. While I don’t love the discomfort, I’ve learned that it’s essential for growth. Without stepping into the unknown, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
