Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathleen Vitali.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kathleen. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always loved creating things with my hands. After many years of working in the fashion industry, I found my self wanting to create something of my own without creative restrictions. United by form was built with the idea behind working collectively with other creatives. Hence United by form came into fruition.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
United By Form has been an organic effort growing naturally over time. There will always be a learning curve when you are a first-time small business owner such as learning about tax IDs and getting incorporated in order to grow your business. Exploring the product market in order to price properly was another aspect of this. Then there is the hump of solidifying your confidence and owning your craft. I can recall getting my first big order and feeling like I was in over my head, but with the joint efforts of other creatives we made it happen. Which reinforced the creative community behind united by form.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about United By Form – what should we know?
We are a curated collection of modern home goods specializing in all-natural candles and soaps. Minimalism is the design ethos and what customers have come to expect. Pulling from nature through the use of essential oils and natural elements like clay and shea butter are consistent with the brand identity.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
We have had incredible support from our friends and family. My husband for one has been a huge support helping create our logo and graphic design elements. So many folks have been on deck ready to lend support every step of the way. Key creatives who have been a huge help along the way are some of my closest friends Jessica H and Sarah M. These women have been integral in forming the brand whether it was helping with festivals, pop up, or assisting in producing product. Also huge shout out to our girl Annie B who’s always willing to help in a pinch.
As far as mentors go, I have always looked up to my grandmother who was an early female entrepreneur of her time. She was a seamstress that crafted the most amazing, intricate wedding gowns. I was fascinated by the process and became her shadow. She taught me so much about dedication, hard work and respect for craftsmanship. I miss her every day and I have her to thank for the love of making things with my hands.
