Today we’d like to introduce you to Kailah Chavis.
Kailah, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I moved to Los Angeles at 19 with no money or a job. Only a studio apartment in Koreatown, my parents, agreed to help me pay for rent if I continued to go to school, which I didn’t.
I didn’t have a job for three months, so in between time, I would take the bus to job interviews and Santa Monica College where I studied film — and trying to find a gig in Los Angeles. I’m now 20, I’ve been in Los Angeles for a year. I’m looking for more exposure and for a big break to better my life.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t. Having a car now is a lot better than the bus. Especially carrying my guitar on the bus really weighed me down when I would have to walk miles. Even though I had a roof over my head thank god.
There were a lot of days where top ramen was breakfast, lunch, and dinner and Arizona’s Teas. But I knew I was a talented artist and I had a dream I was willing to struggle and still am.
We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I’m a singer/songwriter musician. I specialize in making music that makes people think, happy or sad. I like to say I’m in the healing business.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future are to be on tour, I want to make money off my music. And create a fan base. I just need help and for someone to believe in me to take me that next level. I’m looking forward to a good year and making more music.
