Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Christopher Crater.

Joshua Christopher, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Started out as a Surf City Huntington Beach local, had a few referrals to some higher end jobs and things just snowballed from there, they key is to focus on quality and building a good reputation.

Has it been a smooth road?
I can’t say I have faced too many obstacles, but it is hard being a professional photographer today. I will be working a paid job and take a photo of a guest with my $10,000-15,000 camera and lens combo and the image is amazing but they just ask “can you also take one with my cell phone?” That is hard but with the new mirror-less cameras I just use the wireless function to send the photo straight to the client’s phone and they usually are really impressed that is even possible.

So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Joshua Christopher Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
We specialize in unique photography. I have shot big name music artists like No Doubt, Zac Brown Band, 311, The Killers and many more, I have worked professional sporting events like the US Open of Surfing or the Vans US Open of Skateboarding, I have done commercial photography for billion-dollar insurance companies, shot covers of magazines, done countless wedding and family portrait shoots but I really just love working with fun creative people to come up with unique images.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I think cell phones are killing professional photography, I mean look at the iPhone 7+ with the portrait mode that blurs the background! To most people it looks just as good as professionals, sure we pros can tell the difference and anyone will figure out reality that tries to print large but most people just view images on their cell phone or small computer screens.
