Meet Josh Desure of DESURE in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Desure.

Josh, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was introduced to music at a young age, my parents had vinyl records and I’d just sit and listen and stare at the artwork for hours . I remember their big record player, listening to Bob Dylan and The Stones over and over.

I really fell in love with music when my brothers took me to the first few shows I ever went to. They were into punk and hardcore. A lot of bands were coming out of where we grew up, and it was amazing to see the progress of close friends.

Seeing people dive on top of each other so they could get a few words into that microphone or stage dive made me fall in love. People being more passionate than anything else I’ve witnessed before. I knew then that’s where I want to be, that’s what I want to do. So I picked up a guitar and learned a few chords.

Has it been a smooth road?
The more I get older, the more responsibilities come with it, and I have to take things a bit more seriously. For longtime music was just something we did in our spare time. Now it’s become more of a job, but I’m definitely not complaining. It’s the best job I could ever have.

Playing around Los Angeles is not that easy. I played for free for years and years. Even to this day, not many venues want to pay you. I tour managed for a bit but decided I really needed to write and play more often, so I recorded an EP and have been putting out singles off it recently. I don’t want to sit here and complain about anything. Life is fucking amazing.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the DESURE story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m a singer/songwriter, I go by Desure that’s my last name. Within the last few years, I’ve released a bit of music and a lot more to come this year. I’ll be on tour throughout this entire year — a lot of dates with Midland and a bunch of other stuff. We’ll be opening for Dwight Yoakam here soon as well.

I’m an honest songwriter, my songs are all me.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
That’s a tough one. I try to be as optimistic as possible. I have a great team behind me.

I’m sure a big shift will happen in the industry though. It’s hard for any industry to be still for so long while the rest of the world moves.

I’m not really sure though, but for myself, I just want to grow as a musician. Put out more music and tour for as many people as possible.
