Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Gorski.
Jonathan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
This all started by throwing parties since I was 16. In high school, I threw birthday parties, graduation parties, prom, anything you can of, I found a reason to throw a party.
As I grew up, I started working in restaurants. I enjoyed being in hospitality as it brought people together over food, which became my next key ingredient towards what I realized would be my career. I moved to Los Angeles in 2009, which after working in restaurants for about five years, I realized I wanted to move to a different part of hospitality. A friend suggested getting into private events, more specifically into catering.
Over the next nine years, I would work for over 40 different caterers and spent the last six years working specifically for Lucques Catering, where I worked my way up to one of the main event managers, handling rentals, client conversations, site visits and overseeing the events themselves. It created an opportunity to work events like a dinner for two all the way up to buffet dinners for 5000 people.
I worked with most big-name celebrities, whether it was a private event in their home or at award shows like the SAG Awards, Grammy’s, Emmy’s and Oscars. I’ve had the chance to work for the elite of LA, while also doing multiple events for world leaders including Past President Barack Obama a few times. I always had a passion for food, beverage, and events, but with a deeper hunger to discover what else the industry had.
I departed from Lucques Catering in February of 2018 to dive deeper into event production working directly with event planners + producers. This led to working destination weddings with some of the world top-ranked event planners, working with agencies to do major events like product launches throughout the states.
I’ve also started my own boutique events company, SSBB Creative, which is a creative house aimed at bringing people together to sincerely socialize and break bread together. These events are collaboratively brought together by a team of individuals to create a unique experience that includes a special conversation series and a meal.
Past examples can be a car rally for 14 guests driving through the OC area or to dinner for 70+ people in my backyard. My love for bringing people together over food + beverage has become an integral part of my career and life, which I now see will be the vehicle that will help create community.
I firmly believe that we will be seeing over the next couple years how people will come together to discuss important topics and to connect over sharing food at a table.
Has it been a smooth road?
Over the years, I went from working as a server in normal restaurants, to a server at catering companies doing top tier events. Once I found the company I wanted to grow with, I worked my way up into management and becoming one of the main managers for a Lucques Catering in Los Angeles.
It was a huge learning curve, and every event was a lesson. Every. Single. Event. It was a process of learning how to co-manage people, sometimes having a staff group of up to 100 people, while also managing an event between 50-1000 people. But, it’s been an incredible experience.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My business is SSBB Creative. We organize private events + engagements with a sense of community, where diverse lifestyles can sincerely socialize and break bread.
I specialize in private events, more specific events that have the elements of both creating conversations between a unique group of people and centering it around some type of meal where the group eats together.
I am most proud when someone comes to dinner and leaves with a unique experience, conversing with good people over delicious food. A key component is a collaboration that is created by different players who come to the table. Each person is integral in creating a unique experience.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
This city is filled with many of the world’s top industries, and my business is there to help those industries celebrate, whether it’s an award show, an investor’s meeting, a company launch to even a gathering between friends. There is always a buzz, and people are connecting every day.
There is a lot of competition in this city, so you have to be on top of your game, but this is a great city to get into events since there are so many directions to go with it, but the best part, is the fact that this city is filled with creative people. Bring the right people together, and some of the best events are created.
