Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonah Rousseau.
Hi Jonah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in a small town in Ohio with really rich kids even though my parents were not. I started making music at age 14 (now age 22). I began learning to engineer myself really young and it’s just now starting to pay off it feels as if. My brother has done pretty well in the underground music scene (gab3) and watching him is how I started doing anything creative really. I used to just freestyle and then I started adapting my own style musically. I’ve always loved rap obviously but my love for pop and pop-punk really started to show themselves. After my first year of college, I moved to LA and starting meeting other artists from SoundCloud I’d heard about. Then I dropped a song in 2017 called “lines in the sand” it gained over 100k on the video and in 24 hours, we have nearly 20k views I wasn’t even sure how it just happened! after that a good friend of mine “Lil Aaron” kind of took me under his wing and showed me a lot more of the industry side making connects, songwriting, went on tour, etc. now I’m just working to keep making the best possible music I’m capable of.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Never a smooth road, knowledge is the biggest thing for any creative the entire “if only I knew then what I know now” kinda thing is completely real. Financially is an obvious one for most artists too but the most challenging is my health. I have muscular dystorphy so my ability to walk is decreasing some days, it’s hard to even get out of bed literally! But thats why I love the studio. I love writing songs and I just try to take everything at my own pace.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a songwriter, thats my thing and I feel like thats why people have gravitated towards my music in any way. Voices are a dime a dozen but people actually are liking the songs. Really proud I’ve been able to gain some credits and go on a live nation tour. I think the thing setting me apart from others is knowledge and perspective, I’ve been around this for a long time I know the formula I’ve seen it work.
