Today we’d like to introduce you to Jolynn J Chin.
Jolynn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
From Malaysia to Beverly Hills, here’s where my story began—and where it’s led me. I’ve been playing piano since I was 5, and over time my love for music grew into something bigger. Today, I’m a Grammy-considered pianist, but what really defines my work now is what my fans connect with most: my time-changing music, where every piece shifts time signatures after every measure.
People know me as the CEO of Time Signatures, and I create music that’s meant to be felt as much as it’s heard—luxury performances, private galas, and immersive music installations, even for royalty. Along the way, I’ve also started sharing what I’ve learned through workshops and mentoring other musicians, helping them find their own voice.
It’s been a wild journey—from Malaysia to Beverly Hills—but it’s exactly where I’m meant to be, creating music that surprises, moves, and sticks with people long after the last note.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Growing up, there were a lot of cultural expectations and commercial pressures—like constantly being told that if I didn’t sing, I wouldn’t make it. I had to prove over and over again that I was enough just with my piano playing and my own vision for music.
Along the way, friendships shifted too. Some friends drifted away, and some I had to let go of, because the higher I climbed in my career, the more I realized I no longer fit into my old circles. It was a lonely but necessary part of growing into who I am as an artist.
All of that taught me resilience, self-belief, and the importance of staying true to my craft—especially as I carve out a space for something as unique as my time-changing music.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m Jolynn J Chin, also known as the CEO of Time Signatures. I’m a Grammy-considered crossover pianist, composer, and producer, specializing in jazz and progressive rock, but what really defines my work is my time-changing piano music—where the rhythm shifts and evolves constantly, keeping every performance unique and unexpected.
I blend classical training with modern sounds, layering beats, electronic elements, and off-time rhythms to create music that’s both virtuosic and immersive. My work has been internationally recognized—I’ve appeared on America’s Got Talent, been nominated for Best Original Film Music at the National Youth Film Awards, and won Gold at the Asia International Piano Academy and Festival. I’ve also had the privilege of collaborating with Grammy-winning and nominated artists, with some of my music mastered at Abbey Road Studios.
What I’m most proud of is how my music connects with people on a deeper level. Fans call me the CEO of Time Signatures because every piece challenges perception of time and rhythm, creating a unique emotional experience. I think what sets me apart is that I don’t just perform—I create music that transforms the space and moment, whether it’s a luxury performance, a private gala, or an immersive installation.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories is waking up to the humid, tropical breeze in Malaysia and heading straight to the beaches, where the water was this incredible, clear blue. I loved swimming for hours, feeling completely free, and then enjoying local street food right by the shore—fresh satay, roti, or sweet treats from the stalls. Those mornings had this perfect mix of simplicity and joy, and I think that sense of wonder and connection to my surroundings has stayed with me and even influences the way I create music today.
