Meet Joe Tishkoff of Skyline Home Loans in Calabasas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Tishkoff.

Joe, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
During my junior year in college while at CSUN in the early 1980’s, I took a part-time position at a mortgage company as an intern. Immediately, my business took off and within a year, I was working while still at CSUN in business school with celebrity clients and top Realtors in the Westside. Jump ahead 30 years, and I’m now a veteran of real estate finance, I have the kind of experience that counts in the fast-paced world of real estate. I have become very much in tune with local conditions. Intelligence and a strong work ethic are the essential elements of my success as a senior loan agent.

I approach each client as an individual and don’t assume or take for granted that someone else is going to do my job. Taking full responsibility for my work is what has helped me to gain my clients’ confidence and keep it.”

Has it been a smooth road?
The economic crisis of 2007 and 2008 were really hard years for everyone – almost 80% of all banks were deemed insolvent and went out of business. I had to borrow money from my parents just to help pay my mortgage during one tough month. Prior to that, we have the 80’s S & L debacle, a few wars and some rough patches along the way. But, I’ve survived all of those and while my competition has dwindled, I’m still here after all these years, as Elton John sang!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I, of course, love the weather and the proximity to great places for long weekend like Mammoth Mountain, San Diego, Big Bear and of course the coast from Santa Barbara to Monterey.

I’m a native Angelino and in fact a second generation Angelo. My 86-year-old dad still resides in the same home I grew up in and he too was born right here in LA as well. There’s not a nook or cranny in LA that I’m unfamiliar with.

What I like least is that some residents are disrespectful to our fine city by vandalizing places or spraying graffiti wherever or whenever they feel like it. That really bothers me and it’s their home too. I’m very conscientious of my environment and someone who litters by throwing a burger bag out their car window really upsets me. I’ve actually pulled over to pick up someone else’s trash it bothers me so much.

And, of course, traffic. Sitting on the freeway for hours can be really exhausting!
