Meet Jocelyn Sida of Fontana

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jocelyn Sida.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Ever since I was very little I knew I loved entertaining people. I used to dance my little heart out to the sounds of my culture and also indulge myself in 80s love songs. My older sister who was 14 years older than me, encouraged me all the time to sing and dance! Then I started making fun of everyone at home and it became a habit. But instead of being mad at me, my family encouraged me to continue doing it and it made us all forget about problems or why anyone was angry during family arguments. I was very intentional and observant as a kid and it stayed with me. I wanted to be a stand up comic really bad but my parents didn’t want me to do that. So I hid that part of me for years until I couldn’t. I would perform secretly and one day I got the call to step up on stage. I was 31, married and living in Chicago. I was invited to perform with amazing Latina Comics at the Laugh Factory in Chicago. When I hit the stage for the first time at a professional comedy club I knew this is where I belonged. That moment opened my eyes and my heart to a part of me that was hidden for a long time. My life changed forever. Now — I don’t know a life without the stage.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Doing Stand Up comedy has been a road only designed for me. Every single person has their own road. So many times it is about who you know and it sometimes stomps your next opportunity but with consistency and confidence in yourself, believing and trusting yourself is the main key to success. I have to constantly remind myself that I am doing everything possible to make sure that I have the opportunities to showcase my talents whenever possible.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I was know for working in politics for a long time. What sets me apart now was that I was able to reinvent myself as a Stand Up comedian in my 30s. I am proud of my hustle and creativity. Knowing I do everything with goodwill and kindness while embodying love and grace in both careers. That sets me apart.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I think people in my comedy life don’t know that I worked in high level politics.
