Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Brady.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in Huntington Beach, California and always find myself coming back to the sea. I am grateful that my family was very encouraging of the arts and travel while growing up which helped establish a foundation for my future. I started in traditional illustration at a young age which quickly developed into a passion for video, photography and design. As I began to travel more, I was drawn to documenting through photography and video – capturing the beauty of locations and people, sharing authentic stories.
My passion for media arts took me to Chapman Film School where I graduated with a focus in Documentary Film in 2010 (also where I met my husband). Following graduation, I moved to Los Angeles to pursue working in Film. My first job out of school was as an Assistant Video Editor for Kareem Abdul Jabbar’s Documentary “On the Shoulder’s of Giants.” Although this was a wonderful experience where I learned a lot about the Film Industry, I was drawn to the idea of starting my own business. I wanted to work in a variety of mediums and help others make their vision come to life.
In 2012, I started JBH Design And Film to help small and large businesses grow. I strive to give the luxury experience through detailed customer service, design and other multimedia focusing on photography and video. I work one on one with my clients to provide creative content and ideas that are bespoke for their needs and to help establish a clear brand identity paired with a solid design aesthetic. I’ve worked with dozens of small businesses all over the US and in different countries ranging from the food industry and real estate, to invention start-ups.
Living and working in LA exposed me to a unique world of people striving to make their dreams come true, which inspired me to start a photography project www.lagirlsproject.com. The intention of the project is to meet and connect with other women, capturing their raw beauty and stories of living and working in LA.
In recent years, I have worked with a social media agency located in LA called Little Arrows, creating content for photography, design and videos for a variety of clients. My focus has been on product and lifestyle photography as well as micro-videos such as stop-motion and cinemagraphs to be used on social media.
In 2015, I moved back to my home-town of Huntington Beach continuing to develop content for Little Arrows. Work-life balance is of upmost importance to me. I have recently become a Certified Yoga Instructor as well as Reiki Certified Practitioner and am in the process of working on a passion project www.loveandlightwellness.com, as a safe space and community for holistic health. I believe that having balance in your life is the most important thing you can do for yourself – doing what you love to make a living while still finding time for your passions, to keep your mind, body and spirit connected.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think with any road there will be smooth parts for easy travel and also bumps along the way. Starting your own business and working for others, both come with challenges. In pursuing JBH Design and Film I was determined to make it work and be my own boss. I would give every client one on one attention and let them know they are important to me, always going above and beyond to make sure they love the end result of the project. Over the years I still face challenges, some months easier than others, however I find that keeping a positive mind set and a strong and determined work ethic helps keep the road ahead smooth.
In recent years working with Little Arrows has also shed light on how working remotely has completely transformed the idea of collaboration. A team of us work all over the country and even in other countries but we find ways to connect via online meetings and using social platforms. This has its challenges too, but overall, I love it and it still allows me to pursue other passions in life.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with JBH Design and Film – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
JBH Design and Film was established to help small businesses and individuals with a wide range of branding needs. I developed JBH to create a customized approach for each client and provide one on one attention in cultivating their vision. Whether they need a website re-design, custom product photography or need to launch with a new brand identity, each client has all their needs met in one place. I am very proud to help small businesses grow and see their vision come to fruition.
One project for JBH that comes to mind was helping launch a Kickstarter Campaign for a camera device invention called Spinpod. I worked one on one with the inventors with everything from developing the brand identity, website, photography and video which lead to a successful Kickstarter Campaign. I was very proud of this project and was grateful to help Spinpod become a public entity for people to purchase and use.
Currently, I am working with Little Arrows as a content creator helping develop custom work including: design, photography and micro-videos for a variety of clients. I find joy in helping bring ideas to life and aiding in the growth of businesses through use of social media, the web and modern platforms.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
In the future, I plan to continue creating customized content with a bespoke approach. I hope to focus my energies on lifestyle and product photography as well as micro videos to be used for branding and social media including cinemagraphs and stop motion.
