Meet Jennifer Yamini of HOUSE-LY

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Yamini.

Hi Jennifer, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have spent the past decade seeing the Los Angeles remodeling and construction industry from nearly every side: managing projects, overseeing production, selling work, writing contracts, and solving the problems that can make or break a build. I have worked alongside homeowners, contractors, subcontractors, architects, designers, city departments, and inspectors, guiding projects from initial concepts through permitting, construction, and completion.

That experience revealed recurring challenges. Homeowners struggled to find trustworthy contractors, evaluate bids, manage communication, and know who was advocating for their interests. At the same time, qualified contractors often struggled to connect with the right homeowners.

That is why my cofounder, Yoel, and I created Housely. We connect homeowners with vetted contractors, provide three competitive bids, and offer experienced construction management guidance throughout the process. Our goal is to make remodeling safer, clearer, and less overwhelming by giving homeowners the transparency and support they need.

Our early response has been encouraging, with a project pipeline of more than $1 million during our initial launch. More importantly, Housely allows me to turn a decade of industry experience into a service that protects and empowers homeowners while creating better opportunities for qualified construction professionals.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road. Construction is a demanding, fast paced industry, and as a woman, I have often had to work harder to demonstrate my understanding of both the business and technical sides of a project. I learned by showing up and staying engaged on job sites, in city offices, in meetings with inspectors and architects, and in difficult conversations when budgets, schedules, or expectations were out of alignment.

Some of my greatest challenges arose when homeowners were frustrated, communication had broken down, or a project took an unexpected turn. I often became responsible for finding solutions, rebuilding trust, and moving the work forward. Although those moments were stressful, they taught me the value of transparency, accountability, and clear communication in construction.

Building Housely has brought a different set of challenges. We are introducing a more transparent, homeowner focused approach to an industry that can be resistant to change. Developing effective systems, carefully vetting contractors, earning homeowners’ trust, and growing the company while managing active projects and family responsibilities have required persistence and discipline.

Yet every obstacle has reinforced the purpose behind Housely. I understand homeowners’ concerns because I have guided them through difficult projects, and I understand contractors’ challenges because I have worked alongside them for years. These experiences have taught me that success is not about avoiding problems. It is about confronting them directly, communicating honestly, and continuing to find solutions.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Housely is a construction management and contractor matching company created to make remodeling safer, clearer, and less intimidating for homeowners.

What sets us apart is that we are experienced contractors and construction professionals. We have spent years working on real projects, walking job sites, managing crews, developing designs, preparing contracts, solving problems, and communicating with architects, engineers, inspectors, city departments, subcontractors, and homeowners.

We know the language of construction and understand the critical details that can determine whether a project succeeds or fails. We understand building codes, permits, inspections, construction sequencing, material selections, realistic budgets, project timelines, trade coordination, and the unexpected conditions that can arise once construction begins. Whether someone is building a home, an ADU, a kitchen, a bathroom, or a complete renovation, we understand what it takes to bring that project from an idea to completion.

Housely is not simply a technology or data platform looking at construction from a distance. We meet personally with homeowners, listen to their goals, evaluate their plans and budgets, and help them understand what their project actually requires. We connect each homeowner with three vetted contractors and provide experienced construction guidance throughout the process.

One of our greatest strengths is bid leveling. Contractor proposals are often written differently, making it difficult for homeowners to know whether they are truly comparing the same scope of work. We review bids in detail and create an apples to apples comparison. Our experience helps us identify inflated pricing, vague allowances, missing work, duplicated charges, unrealistic numbers, and hidden fees that can be easy to overlook without a construction background. We then help the homeowner ask the right questions and negotiate fair pricing before signing a contract.

Other platforms may generate leads or provide general information, but they often lack the construction knowledge needed to evaluate the details of an actual project. Our experience allows us to identify concerns early and help prevent expensive surprises later.

What makes me most proud is that Housely is a human and hands on brand. We genuinely love the construction and design industry, and we want to improve it from within. Our mission is to remove the fear and confusion surrounding remodeling by giving homeowners transparency, trusted guidance, qualified professionals, and someone who understands the process and is prepared to advocate for them.

Homeowners who work with Housely receive a dedicated advisor with unlimited Zoom consultations, cost guidance, zoning and permitting guidance, three handpicked contractors, detailed bid review, pricing negotiation, and support throughout construction. Completed projects also include a two year warranty.

Our experienced team levels the proposals so homeowners can make a true apples to apples comparison. We identify missing scope, inflated pricing, hidden fees, vague allowances, and other details that are easy to overlook without construction experience.

This process is designed to reduce unnecessary costs, encourage better quality craftsmanship, resolve issues quickly, and help homeowners renovate with greater confidence. We do not promise that construction will never have challenges. We promise that homeowners will have knowledgeable support when those challenges arise.

What makes you happy?
I love what I do, and working directly with people is what makes me happiest. Even though Housely has dedicated advisors and field managers, I still make the time to visit homeowners, sit with them, understand their stories, and learn what they truly need. I never want to become disconnected from the people we created this company to serve.

My goal is to educate homeowners and help them build a trusting relationship with their contractor. I say this all the time: not all contractors are bad. There are many talented, honest, and hardworking contractors who care deeply about their clients and the quality of their work.

Housely is not here to babysit or speak badly about contractors. Our role is to create clarity, strengthen communication, and help both sides begin the project with realistic expectations. When homeowners understand the scope, pricing, responsibilities, and construction process, they are more prepared to trust the professionals they hire.

At the same time, there are unqualified contractors, inexperienced salespeople, and inexperienced project managers who can turn what should be an exciting project into a stressful and financially damaging experience. A lack of knowledge, communication, or accountability can destroy the homeowner’s confidence and create a very painful story for a family.

The fires that devastated communities across Los Angeles gave our work an even greater purpose. Hearing heartbreaking stories from families who lost their homes and were then approached by scammers or unqualified professionals made our mission feel even more urgent.

Helping homeowners become educated, protected, and confident makes me happy. When we can support a good contractor, protect a homeowner, and help create a successful relationship between them, I know we are improving the industry in a meaningful way.
