Meet Jennifer Anderson of AccessElite in Orange County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Anderson.

Jennifer, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
From a young age, I have been fascinated with starting companies. After completing my studies at the University of Florida, I set out to New York City to work for two top advertising agencies, Rapp Collins followed by Ogilvy Mather. At Ogilvy Mather, I developed my passion for utilizing digital channels as the means of effectively communicating and telling a story in addition to garnering my first experience in the health and life sciences space. After a few years on Madison Avenue, I was recruited by a former VP of Rapp Collins into my first startup, Sermo, the first social network for physicians which grew from 100 physicians when I started to more than 180,000 physicians when I departed.

While there I worked directly with more than a dozen health, bio-tech and pharmaceutical companies to create programs to better communicate and interact with physicians around the country, directly growing revenue for the business to more than 5 million a year. After overseeing the launch of numerous programs and products, I took my first role at a pharmaceutical company leading the consumer marketing for the obesity franchise at Allergan. Followed by a promotion to run the consumer launch of Botox for your bladder in the Urology Division. After completing the launch, I took a promotion to commercialize the first social commerce company in lifestyle healthcare, ALPAEHON. At ALPAEHON, I lead a team of more than 50 people across three departments leading to 7.3 million in annual sales, as well as designing, building and launching the largest multi-specialty healthcare online community and market place with more than 20,000 physician members.

I left ALPHAEON in July 2016 to pursue my dream to start my own company, Addison Consulting, that assists start-up companies in successfully commercializing their products and ideas. While managing Addison Consulting, I worked with more than dozen startups to develop and implement innovative brand strategies, deploy new business models, expand channels, formulate effective go-to-market strategies, drive market awareness and raise adequate capital to grow. One of my clients was Concierge Key Health, where my passion to optimize and transform how people engage in their health and ultimately achieve true well-being drove me to fully commit and take a leadership role in the organization. This passion and purpose come second only to the passion I have for my amazing husband and two little girls with a third little girl on the way.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Every path to success has its challenges (as the old adage goes, nothing worth having comes easy). We have had to evolve our thinking, business model, approach, and even financial structure along the way to ensure that we had the right product offerings that fit the consumer needs. We have had to be flexible and open-minded, but what has kept us moving forward is the impact we believe we can make on people’s lives and the vision for the future that we share as a united team. We are dedicated to creating a healthier world by empowering patients, enabling specialists, and driving innovation in the health and wellness industries.

Please tell us about AccessElite.

We are working to create a change in the healthcare industry, which until now has largely disregarded the changing consumer. We believe that through delivering more convenience, greater choices, better access, and an overall experience consistent with what is expected in any customer-focused industry, we can transform the healthcare industry and I am thrilled to lead us in this mission.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I think the mistake that many companies make, ourselves included is losing sight of the “why.” Everyone at the company is passionate about what we are creating and the impact we can on people’s lives, but no matter how passionate you are if you don’t keep the why front and center it may not be communicated effectively to your customers. We have had to evolve our messaging and marketing to focus more on the “why” and less on the “what.” In addition, we spent too much time in the beginning on pilots and trying things vs. committing to an idea and seeing it through. This lack of commitment in the beginning delays our commercial launch and expansion.
