Meet Jenae “Jenger” Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenae “Jenger” Jones.

Jenae, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. Since the tender age of three, I’ve been a mover, training in ballet, tap, jazz and hip hop at Blackwell’s Dance Academy. Throughout high school, I was a stepper, cheerleader and swimmer. Later on in college, I joined the Afrikan Arts Ensemble’s (AAE) modern dance component at UCLA, and became co-director over AAE entirely (other components included hip-hop, vocals, tap, drama and music). Aside from hip-hop, I’m well-versed in Dancehall, West Afrikan dance, and stepping (I’ve served as stepmaster for my sorority chapter (Pi Chapter), stepped in yard shows throughout college and performed in competitions such as the California Greek Picnic Step Show representing the devastating divas of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated). Additionally, I teach a monthly dance class at the Crenshaw Yoga and Dance Studio that infuses hip-hop, twerk, and cardio all-in-one! I’m continuing my dance training at renowned studios such as Debbie Reynolds Legacy Studios, Evolution Studios, Millennium Dance Complex & Movement Lifestyle, and I continue to work toward my dance and entertainment industry goals.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Booking jobs isn’t easy; the audition process is competitive. However, consistency, training, networking, a healthy agency relationship, and establishing a “look” (or looks ;), helps with navigating the dance industry and achieving goals.

In regards to teaching classes, some days, I’ll have a packed class. Other days, I’ll have very few students. However, what matters most is the presence of the ladies that show up, along with their participation and positive energy. Their engagement alone makes the classes all worthwhile, no matter the headcount.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
My dance classes are for all experience levels, and a safe space for women to come together, move and uplift each other. Nowadays, so many dance classes can be pretty intimidating (especially when seeing viral dance videos on social media platforms), so it is important to bring fun and community back to the dance studio. My classes bring high energy, fellowship, fun, and encourage healthy lifestyles! Students have approached me and shared with me how much they enjoyed the challenge my classes bring them, and how they’re encouraged to continue pursuing healthier and active lifestyles, however that may look!

Additionally, I’m a signed professional dancer and I have booked music video, live performance, film and television jobs. Some of my credits include, “The Good Place (NBC),” Khalid’s “Right Back” music video, Coachella Music Festival, and a feature film that can’t be named just yet. Stay tuned (;

What are you most proud of?
I am proud my growth in the area of networking. I love seeing the fruit of all the connections I’ve made with such amazing individuals. I’ve grown personally and professional with the help of my tribes. It takes a village to raise a child, but even adults still benefit from a healthy sense of community.
