Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Pouncy
Hi Jasmine, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started baking out of curiosity. When I first started I never saw it as a career choice, I was so focused on being a professional fighter at the time I didn’t think it was possible. But I used to watch baking shows and competitions and go in the kitchen to try and mimic things I saw, or create my own little recipes. After a while of experimenting on my family, I started selling my treats as a side hustle. I was off and on for about 2-3 years. And then I fell off once I went pro with fighting. Once again I didn’t think I’d be able to do both because of my training schedule. And I had also started coaching youth boxing at Michelle and Barack Obama Sport Complex (A.K.A Rancho Cienega Sports Complex) and getting my nonprofit(Pouncing on Poverty) off the ground, which is centered around Feeding, giving clothes to, and supporting the less fortunate. So with as much as I had on my plate, baking didn’t really seem attainable at the time. As time went on, I really started to miss it and I had people asking for treats. So I managed my time and put it back into my schedule, and I’ve been consistent with it for the last year. I’ve created a website, became more active on Social Media, and have done pop-ups and catered a few events to try and expand my business.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has been everything but smooth, but I manage. With falling off due to other career goals, I thought I was completely done with baking. But every professional athlete needs a backup plan. So I started to invest just as much into this business path as much as my professional fighting career. I also go through dead periods, where I’m not receiving many orders. I just take those moments now to perfect old and new recipes.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Tapout Queen Treats?
I am the CEO of Tapout Queen Treats located in Mid-City, Los Angeles. It is a small but growing home-based baking business. I have aspirations of expanding to a food truck, and then a storefront later down the line. I specialize in specialty desserts, more specifically Cheesecakes, Puddings, Puddings with Cheesecake chunks in them, Cookies, Cupcakes, and more. I enjoy making desserts that I know no one else in the market is making. Some of my desserts sound simple, but I always add a bit of a twist to it to set me apart. I create very rich and delicious flavors! My website is
www.tapoutqueentreats.com and you can find me on Instagram @tapoutqueen_treats
I am most proud of my tenacity. Even when I didn’t see a future here, I made my way back and now I’m here to stay!
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
The best thing about my City is, I’m right in the middle of everything! The beach, downtown LA, Beverly Hills, the Airport, etc are all 15-20min drives away.
My dislikes are the growing homeless numbers. There has been a MASSIVE growth in the homeless epidemic since the pandemic.
