Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Chang.
Jasmine, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m a freelance hairstylist based in Los Angeles, CA. In 2004, I attended the University California of Irvine and graduated with a B.A. in studio art. My favorite medium was painting.
Shortly after graduating, while watching the debut season of America’s Top Next Model, I found myself fascinated by the art of hair.
I took a leap and enrolled myself into the Toni & Guy Hairdressing Academy to explore my curiosities where I finished and became a licensed cosmetologist in just ten months.
As I entered the salon world at Sally Hershberger LA, I realized how significant hair was in helping enhance our best features. My connection to the clients I was servicing and the companionship I built with them was such a heartwarming experience.
That encouraged me to work towards getting my own hair studio. My mother, who’s also an art teacher, always had her own studio space which I spent most of my time growing up. That motivated and pushed me to be the freelance stylist I am today.
Has it been a smooth road?
Financial obstacles were definitely the biggest challenges while pursuing hair as a career. I was just able to pay off all my school loans this past month from being self-employed and I’m happy to say I’m finally debt free!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Jasmine Chang Studio – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I just recently built and designed my own space in Koreatown, Los Angeles.
Jasmine Chang Studios specializes in services such as balayage, coloring, haircuts, men’s grooming, barbering, brazilian blowout, extensions, bridal, styling, music videos, fashion shows, photoshoots, commercials, movies, & award shows.
I’m most proud of how all my clients turned into my family. It’s not just business. We do life together. I think thats what sets us apart from others.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like most about our city is the pockets of diversity in each ethnic community. You can literally find the best of anything all in one city. It’s the melting pot of world!
I dislike the traffic and how we can’t find parking anywhere!
