Meet Janet Woods of The Art of Life Institute in Irvine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janet Woods.

Janet, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a former Xerox Manager and discovered Feng Shui. I used the principles and realized the profound impact it had on my employees and colleagues. When you change a person’s environment, you can change their lives.

I am a Grand Master in Feng Shui. I have had my practice for over twenty years. I am the former chapter director of the International Feng Shui Guild, founder of The Orange County Feng Shui Guild and The Feng Shui Professionals Association. I am the first black woman to hold these positions and the first black Feng Shui Master in the United States. #1 Bestselling co-author on Amazon, as well as a three-time Lifetime Achievement Award recipient for community service from the President of the United States.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The Art of Life institute came about because I wanted more people working in the field of Feng Shui, Feng Shui is not a profession most people gravitate towards. You are a problem solver. Your clients have tried everything before coming to you.

As a leader in my field, I realized 90% of the Feng Shui experts in America are not trained in the Five Asian Arts like me. They could not compete with their Asian counterparts. Most did not even know the other arts existed.

I gathered people from my associations and started sharing my knowledge which is frowned upon in the Feng Shui world. Your work is a calling and there is an oral tradition that is over 5,000 years old. Most Chinese Feng Shui masters were not excited about the expansion of Feng Shui as it became more popularized by books, and television.

Today, anyone can pick up a book, take a course, and create changes in their space. They don’t know the missing pieces that can harm or help them in a psychological way.

Please tell us about The Art of Life Institute.
The Art of Life Institute is the only school that specializes in the Asian Arts. We teach courses that touch mind, body, and spirit from Korea, Japan, China, and Tibet.

Most of our students have been studying for years on their own, our average student has about 10 years in their respective field, and do not have documentation to acknowledge their expertise. The Art of Life provides this acknowledgment in addition to certification in the various Asian metaphysical subjects.

At the Art of Life Institute, they expand their knowledge, have a community and are making a difference in the world.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Getting my own bedroom, and designing it the way I wanted it.
