In addition to the above:
Prior to covid and subsequently in the midst of the pandemic, I decided my personal journey was to only contribute to ventures that have value. Real intrinsic value.
Seeking Truth through whatever ability I was capable of.
After my time at Texas A&M, I chose to go back to school. To tick off some of the bucket list as it were and further my education in story telling. A fruitful and cathartic experience , a gift that continues to give.
Whilst back at school, I took a year off coaching. A much needed break from the game. As most coach’s who will tell you, that in order to do it well, it has to consume you.
As It did, for so long, I needed a reprieve to love it again.
Alas, one who loves it, can stay away for too long.
LA Soul was and is a club with a cause very near to heart. When I arrived in LA mid 2023, the offer to coach was there but in my heart, I couldn’t commit.
However, I knew I would eventually be able to contribute.
The opportunity to coach LA Soul the following season became available again. This coincided with the opportunity to coach the Forwards for the Mexican National team.
The opportunity to coach at the international level was just the challenge I needed to reinvigorate my passion for coaching.
It seemed that both opportunities became windows of fortune to grow again in a field I deeply care about as well as a perfect occasion to understand my potential.
A core value of what I decided on in journey. This journey has VALUE. I has Truth.
Both teams are on the same Journey. A desire to reach their potential, a desire to achieve and more importantly a desire let everyone know WHO THEY ARE.
Needless to say, they are blessing to be apart of and a joy to be with them on their journey.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No.
But seldom is.
“If the path before you is clear, you’re probably on someone else’s.” – Carl Jung
It’s funny, if you’re looking for inspiration, if you really pay attention, you can find it everywhere. It can all too consuming but if your brave enough, you can find it. Just pay attention.
My road changed when the love of my life was diagnosed with cancer in 08′. My mother was and still is my super hero. She fought Valiantly until her body succumbed.
I questioned everything under the sun. My compass was ….gone. Although, I have the best brother in the world, best sister in-law, a loving father, the pain was unspeakable. So, forging through the next year was character defining.
Fast forwarding in time through divorce, relocation and other events, I often use my experiences as an example of ‘strength’. It allows ‘perspective’. It’s a valuable tool for survival and growth. Not always applicable nor viable but it can used to help negotiable suffering.
I often think, those of us, who have been through this and much much worse forget how STRONG we actually are and IF your lucky enough as I was to have the mother I had, She made you STRONG. You just have to be brave enough to acknowledge it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Rugby Coach/ Mentor/ Guidance Counselor / Actor/ Writer
Proud of the connections, I create with my fellow human beings.
I’ve been a few films, nothing of note. Rugby keeps getting in the way! haha however, I look forward to re-immersing myself in the craft after this block of coaching with the Mexican National team.
As for setting myself apart, I despise piety, however, I value human connection above all else. A fault, perhaps but a value I cherish above all.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Seek Truth.
Start in a place where you feel the strongest conviction but where you feel comfortable receiving information. Then we you feel stronger, challenge yourself to go deeper into the process.
Although at times, it will be excruciating, unjust, unfair, it will be the right medicine for YOU.
Out the other, you will understand YOU and that is always the goal. Once you understand, YOU……growth can be limitless and you can navigate anything.
Be Brave.
