Meet Isa Ramirez of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Isa Ramirez

Hi Isa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m a hairstylist based in the dynamic city of Los Angeles, a city brimming with dreamers and creative energy. With a passion for art and a positive, can-do spirit, I approach each client with a fresh, imaginative perspective. To me, hairstyling isn’t just a profession- it’s a way to express creativity and bring out the unique beauty in every individual.
As a hairstylist, I’ve found the perfect balance between creativity and making a real difference in people’s lives. There’s something truly fulfilling about knowing that my work can brighten someone’s day, whether it’s through a fresh cut, a vibrant color, or simply the chance to listen and connect. I’m fortunate to have clients from different parts in the world, and it’s incredibly rewarding to know that my art is part of their lives, no matter where they are. In a way, I’m coloring the world pretty, one client at a time. Every day, I get to do what I love while helping others feel confident and beautiful- and that’s a gift I never take for granted.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I was just ten years old, I lost my mom to cancer. It was a profound loss that shaped me in ways I’m still discovering. Even now, I think about her every day- her creativity, her fun-loving spirit, and her vibrant personality. Though she’s not physically here, her memory continues to inspire me in everything I do.
As a young girl, I found solace and strength in music and art, which became my outlets for expression and healing. They gave me a way to channel my emotions and make sense of a world that suddenly felt so much heavier. Through creativity, I found beauty in moments of pain, and developing a deep understanding of the power of self-expression.

Growing up, my teenage years were tough as I struggled to find my place in the world. The relationship with my dad wasn’t always easy, and I spent a lot of time trying to understand myself and where I fit in. But through it all, I had two incredible brothers and an unwavering support system in my family who were there to guide me, even when things felt uncertain.
I married my high school sweetheart, and though that chapter of my life ended in divorce- a painful experience- I’m grateful for the journey it let me on. Through the challenges, I was blessed with a beautiful daughter who means the world to me. Going through a divorce and starting over is never easy, and it’s not a path anyone expects to take. But I made a conscious decision to fight for my happiness, and to change my life. It was during this time of transformation that I discovered my calling. I decided to become a hairstylist, a decision that changed the course of my life. In this career, I found not only a creative outlet but a way to connect with others, and its been one of the most fulfilling decisions I’ve ever made. While life hasn’t always gone according to plan, I’ve learned that it’s never too late to reinvent yourself and find what truly makes you happy.

The beauty industry is tough to break into, I’ve been overworked and underpaid, constantly having to fight for my worth, but I’ve never let the bitter side of this industry discourage me. Whether you’re a hairstylist or chasing any other dream, never stop believing in yourself. Don’t let the setbacks make you doubt your vision, and don’t let the noise of others drown out your inner voice. Keep your eyes on the bigger picture, because every experience, good or bad, is preparing you for what’s next.

I’m proud to say that, through it all, I’ve found my salon home- Bonita Salon in beautiful Marina del Rey, just steps from the beach. It’s here that I specialize in color and hair extensions. Finally a salon that feels just right for me. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: don’t give up, keep pushing, and trust the process. Your time will come. Your dream is worth fighting for, and you’re capable of achieving more than you can imagine. The road may be long, but it’s leading you to exactly where you’re meant to be. And I’m just getting started. My big dream? To one day have my own hair color line, and I’m working every day to make that a reality.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a well- rounded hairstylist with a diverse background, having worked in a variety of settings- from a barbershop and high-end salons to wig salons, on-set work, celebrities, and weddings. This broad experience has shaped my expertise, particularly in blonde hair, specialty cuts, hair extensions, event styling, color customization, and color transformations, including color corrections. With focus on both creativity and precision, I offer a full range of hair extension methods including I-tip, K-tip, tape-in, and sew in hair extensions to help clients achieve the volume and length they desire. I’m known for creating natural, blended colors that suit each individual client.
Some of my most significant work has been coloring wigs. I’ve had the opportunity to color wigs for celebrities and to see my work showcased publicly was an amazing experience. I’ve also had the privilege of helping clients who’ve experienced hair loss due to medical conditions like alopecia and cancer patients going through chemo. Being part of their hair journey and restoring a sense of normalcy and confidence through my work is one of the most fulfilling aspects of what I do.
What sets me apart is not only my technical skill and deep understanding of color theory, but my approach to each appointment. For me, a client’s time in the chair isn’t just about the hair- it’s about the whole experience. We laugh, we share stories, sometimes we cry, and we connect on a deeper level. I’m driven by the joy of helping my clients feel confident and beautiful. I love that my work allows me to blend artistry with hair, bringing each client’s vision to life, and making every appointment a unique and uplifting experience.
If you’re interested in booking an appointment with me, I’m open to new clients and would love the oppurtunity to work with you! You can find me at Bonita Salon in Marina del Rey, or feel free to reach out to me directly through my instagram socials @icynotbrassy and @isaicearies

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I don’t have a formal mentor, but I draw inspiration from the people around me. I’m self-motivated by my dreams and the vision I have for my career. My fellow hairstylists are a constant source of inspiration for me. From those I work alongside to well- known hair professionals I follow on social media. I’m constantly learning new techniques to refine my craft, and I’ve built strong friendships with talented hairstylists who continue to motivate me.
When it comes to networking, I’ve found that it’s all about putting yourself out there. Whether I’m running errands or going for a walk, I take every opportunity to start a conversation- complimenting someone’s hair is a great ice breaker. I’ll say something like, ‘I like your hair, If you’re ever looking for a new hairstylist, here’s my card.’ Building a strong clientele is a gradual process, and for me, word of mouth is key. Thats why I believe in taking the time with each client- quality work will always make an impression. The best piece of advice I can give is this, always leave people with a positive emotional experience, so that when they think of you, it brings them joy and makes them want to return.
