Today we’d like to introduce you to Idrise Wardel.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Idrise. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started singing when I was a child, in the car seat. I grew up to perform in a few choirs and develop my skill a bit. At 19, I joined the Air Force, traveled the world, fought terrorism and became an R&B artist on the side. I had some club chart success in Germany (8 times) and I was cast for a television show called The Voice. I was unable to participate due to military restrictions and have had to pass on multiple music industry opportunities throughout my military service years (10). I decided that I had given enough of my service to the world, and it was time for me to chase my own dreams. I moved directly to LA and enrolled in music-related classes at various schools believing that the more I know about the industry I want to be successful in, the better chance I have of achieving that success.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing worth having ever came easy. Of course, it’s not a smooth road, most of the struggle, other than the obvious financial one, is the internal battle you have with yourself. The battle you have with doubt, self-assurance, motivation, inspiration; also questing your decisions to take certain risks, “going against the grain” is harder mentally than materially.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Inspire M.E., L.L.C. – what should we know?
I am an R&B artist at the core, but the financial struggles lead me to broaden my skill-set. So now, I am a studio engineer, songwriter, vocal producer, journalist, independent artist consultant, graphic designer, music video director and D.P., and anything else I need to be in order to be of service in the industry. I am most proud of the fact that I have learned to do most of this on my own, and become highly skilled at them all, not just average.
I think what sets me apart from others is that I know myself. I know what I am capable of, I don’t over-sell and strive to over-deliver. I am a realist, not an optimist, so my risks are calculated. I am a dream-chaser, not a dreamer. I value accomplishments, not activity. I say that to say, it’s not about what you’re doing, it’s what you’ve done… by looking at things in this way, I can confidently say that I have accomplished great things in my military career; and now I am in the next phase of my life where I am “striving” to accomplish great things in the music industry. Until I have accomplished something great in this industry, I am still MAKING IT… but I want to have MADE IT.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Resiliency is essential to one’s success.
