Meet Hollywood Photographer: Phillip Kim Marra

Today we’d like to introduce you to Phillip Kim Marra.

Phillip Kim, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I got started in photography right after I got out of the Army. I took some photography courses at the local community college, right after that I decided to move to California to further my photography education. After I finished school I assisted a top L.A. photographer where I learned a lot about the business, dealing with clients, putting a creative team together and lighting setups. Also at the same time I worked as an assistant manager at Paragon black & white production lab in Hollywood. During that time I was also freelancing doing head shots, weddings, fashion, and glamour.

What have been the proudest moments of your career so far?

Meeting very talented people like actress Joycelyne Lew, who is also the Founder/Owner of Final Print in Hollywood, Adam Rivera of Ionz Media, Cali T. Rossen POW girl Productions who is working with me on my web series “3 Orbs of Light, and Etc.

What advice do you have for someone starting out?
For someone starting out I would advise doing your homework in the area you want to be in and also getting out and networking with people.

  • For Head shots – $250.00, 3 looks, 4-5 retouch finish images (does not include makeup & hair)
  • Fashion – pricing depends on the size of the job

I met Kim Marra printing his invoices at Final Print. Then I did the makeup and hair for Ice T’s wife Coco. A few years later I started modeling and then Kim shot my calendar. He is also now the cinematographer and editor for my show, “Cooking In with Joycelyne.”
He redid my website http://www.joycelyne.com so he and I have done many various jobs in the creative visual realm!

Kim Marra creates fantasy worlds that capture your imagination. On my Sci Fi video shoot at IOS – Interorbital Systems in Mojave, CA, Kim shot images while playing a wizard sending the band Magnifica to Earth from the moon. Later, I realized his photos were another dimension of the same day. Love the one in this article of Count Smokeula and the tree. Now, I am writing a script about a magical tree.
