Meet Hollywood Hair Stylist : Mickey Hernandez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mickey Hernandez .

Mickey, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m an LA transplant from Michigan. Moved to this crazy state when I was 18 years old. To go to Paul Mitchell The School. After I got my cosmetology license I worked on set for commercials, fashion shows, movies and award shows. Now I am currently working at Floyds Hollywood and freelancing. I’m starting my own business with my sidekick and business partner Amy Block. I got to where I am by talking to everyone making connections. Giving my card out connecting on Instagram, Facebook and my personal number.

Has it been a smooth road?
The struggle was School that was the hardest part. I was going to school full time and working full time. School was fun and I loved learning but having the energy for 12 hour days 5 to 6 days a week was hard. Ones I got done and completed school. I started working full time. Building my clientele has been super fun my clients have become my good friends watching their lives grow has been really cool.

When you look back, can you point to a period when you wanted to quit or a period that was really frustrating?
My job is tough physically. So yes there is days where I have 15 clients and my body can’t do anymore. I’m learning to take care of myself and not over do it. Put my body and health first.

What would you tell someone who is just starting out?
Talk to everyone! Look at everyone as a Client. The more open, honest and caring about people the more they will trust you.

What are you looking forward to?
Starting my own business. Progressing in my career meeting more Clients. Working on set more and freelancing. I looking at my life as I can do anything I want. Just work hard and don’t give up.
