Meet Hasmik Amirian of Amirian Ballet Academy in North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hasmik Amirian.

Hasmik Amirian is a Russian/Armenian Master Ballet teacher who has trained and performed professionally in the Vaganova style of ballet. The Vaganova Method is a ballet technique and training system devised by the Russian dancer and pedagogue Agrippina Vaganova. It is acknowledged all over the world as the foremost training syllabus of classical ballet. The Method is an extraordinary system that permits to develop the knowledge of how one’s body should be used in order to dance with expression, yet without injuries like the best Russian dancers do.

With 24 years of mastering the art and teaching experience, she began developing a strong reputation within the industry, which led her with the idea to build a professional school of hardworking, talented, and self-motivated students.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
In 2017, Hasmik Amirian became the owner of her own studio and opened Amirian Ballet Academy. With the values of talent, respect, and work ethic, Hasmik believes in the dream of a few selected students and works diligently in helping her students achieve their dreams of becoming professional dancers.

Hasmik first started with small conservatory classes and privates lessons. As the word started spreading, the school rapidly started growing due to the admiration of the kids. “Nice but pushy… That’s what they like.” Russian training is known to be strict, but Hasmik realized that communication, positivity and trust and the keys to the children’s success.

“Ballet world always has drama. For me, drama stays outside of my studio. If you bring drama inside, you can leave.”

Amirian Ballet Academy – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Because of the tremendous amounts of respect and support from the students and their families, Amirian Ballet Academy is grown and is a place of ballet and happiness. Hasmik is outstandingly grateful for the parents’ and students’ faith in her abilities to change her student’s lives and guide them through achieving their dreams.

At Amirian Ballet Academy, the focus is not only to develop good dancers. The main goal is to help the students develop strong values such as respect, camaraderie, hard work, and not giving up on anything they want to achieve.

What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
Hasmik Amirian is incredibly proud of herself and her achievements throughout this difficult industry, all the while being a single mom and learning the ropes of living in a new continent. She believes her work is her art. Being able to share such strong values, as well as being able to teach this discipline, love, and work ethic after getting out of what she called an “army training”, is worth being proud of.

What sets Amirian Ballet Academy apart from other Ballet schools is that Hasmik deeply loves what she does. “I’ve done other things as well, but I know how much I love teaching ballet.” Dealing with the kids brings her joy, and makes her feel like a child again. “They keep me young.”
