Meet Harry Blitzstein of Blitzstein Museum of Art in Fairfax District

Today we’d like to introduce you to Harry Blitzstein.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My great-grandfather painted cupids in Russian churches, my grandfather played violin like Fiddler on the roof, my mother was an impressionist painter, so naturally I took to art.

My art gallery on Fairfax was my father’s shoe store where I worked for many years, escaping only to pick up my degrees, a BA in writing (I spent ten years proving that I’m no Kafka, though I do likely have the largest collection of books on Kafka west of anywhere), and an MFA in painting from Claremont Graduate School in 1964. I retired Fair Shoe Store in 1985, but maintained the property until I opened my art gallery. When I’d mentioned that idea to my father a decade prior, he’d said “You’ll ruinate the neighborhood!” Since 1993, that’s what I’ve been doing.

Pricing:

I just got a piece of signed art of Harry Bliitzstein from 2005.
It’s a fun little guy who looks like toast! I love it! I want to price it for my shop. What is the value?
