Meet King Mosi in North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to King Mosi.

King Mosi, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Formerly known as King Guttah, Currently known as LongLiveMosi or King Mosi. Growing up in a house predominantly based on sports. I played Football, Basketball, Baseball, Soccer, and I ran track. I never would of thought I would be in the entertainment industry as a professional choreographer or music artist. I started off as a freestyle dancer entering battles all across the US and from there I moved to Los Angeles to pursue my career as professional dancer. Moving to Los Angeles helped me in so many ways because at the time the internet wasn’t as popular with pushing dancers, so in order to be in the scene you had to move there. In LA, I’ve met some dope dancers and humans and within the first month of me being there I was able to become a teacher at the prestigious Millennium Dance Complex. Shortly after I booked my first music video with singer/song writer JOJO that was aired worldwide. From there, I go on to work with artist such as Kendrick Lamar, Will Smith, Jaden Smith, Chaka Khan, Daddy Yankee, and Danileigh to name a few. My biggest personal accomplishment was choreographing Danileigh’s first tour, I’ve always wanted to create a vision and put it on stage and from Choreographing her first Music Video to her Tour was such a blessing.

From dance I’ve met and connected with some dope humans who seen more in me than just dance, I was connected with actors David So and Justin Chon who featured me in their movie ‘GOOK” than won multiple awards at Sundance Film Festival and has also been and still is featured on Netflix and I didn’t stop there. I was also a reference for dancing in the movie TROLLS choreographed by dance legend Marty Kudelka and was also a feature in the YOUTUBE promotion for the movie SING choreographed by another dance legend Aakomon Jones. The industry has taught me a lot of things about life and myself and it brought out my passion for music. I always had a love for music and I recorded a bunch of songs back in high school that went viral but I put that aside to dance. Recently I’ve been back in the studio and was able to drop three projects, One under my old name King Guttah and two projects under my current name LONGLIVEMOSI. I’ve been in the studio relentlessly and working on a new sound. I want to leave a Legacy behind for my children to have something to be inspired by. This journey has taught me a lot and I still have so much more to do and work on, I’m excited for what’s to come.

Has it been a smooth road?
I wish I could say this was all peaches and cream lol but it wasn’t. I struggled with a lot and still struggle with things till this day. When I came in the game I wouldn’t say I was homeless but I surfed couch to couch and sometimes sleeping in my car some nights because I didn’t have a staple roof over my head. It definitely built character and made my hungrier for success. I had to get up and go get it by any means necessary. It took a toll on my mental health, I had a lot of break downs and it took me through a lot of pain that had me dependent on weed and alcohol. I wasn’t addicted to it but it was something I used to self medicate and take my mind off things and it wasn’t the best thing for me. I struggled with friends and social anxiety, I really not the type of person to put myself out there at first it takes time for me to warm up to people. The industry in a tough place and it takes a lot of self-discipline to stay focused but when you do its worth it.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a Choreographer, Dance, Music Artist, and Designer, you can basically say I am a Creative Entrepreneur. I use to go by the name of the ‘King Guttah” but the name after time became something I wasn’t and I grew out of it so the name Mosi was given to me and I stood by it and added the LONG LIVE before it to let the work know that King Guttah is no more but the throne has an heir and its LONG LIVE MOSI. Long Live The King. I teach hip hop classes at studios in LA weekly and I teach all over the world at many different. I also am a dane and have been in multiple music videos and commercials aired across the world. I also have a clothing brand called Legacy 88 Brand which is based on the idea of Leaving a Legacy behind for your children and others can grow from and become successful. I am a creative genius, and sometimes that can get in the way of my business because I don’t like to compromise for my visions. I think the thing that sets me apart from others in the fact that I AM RELENTLESS. Anything I want to achieve I will go and get. I will learn it from front to back and apply it. I work so damn hard to be where I am and it has payed off. The way I approach and see art in all aspects of life is unmatched. My brain works in a mysterious way that sometimes I had to sit back and say DAMN IM GOOD lol. My mom instilled that in me.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
A few years ago, I said artists (in all industries) will be able to make money on their on and BOOM thanks to social media and all these different platforms artists can make their own money and create their own opportunities form them and their friends and family. In the next 5-10 years, I believe artiest will be more efficient and able to make more money and provide for themselves. The dance industry is a lil different because artists aren’t using dancers as much and the pay isn’t that great. SO the dance industry may fall BUT dancers will still be able to make profits from endorsements, brand deals, and other ventures of business that will open once the Dance industry door closes.
