Meet Glennae Davis of Rx For Life

Today we’d like to introduce you to Glennae Davis.

Glennae, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve known racism and discrimination my entire life, however, my story started when I experienced institutional employment discrimination as a registered nurse. I was injured while doing bedside care and ended up on workman’s compensation. My injury took longer than expected to heal, which resulted in me being discriminated against by a major U.S. hospital. The occupational health doctor initially told me, after learning of my injury, that he didn’t see a reason for me to use my thumb, to begin with. At that point, I knew I was being discriminated against. From there, doctors recommended medical treatment plans that weren’t in my best interest and could have harmed me more than help. They wanted me to take opioids and psychiatric medication and diagnosed me with clinical depression because I complained of employment discrimination. They continuously disregarded my concerns and employee rights.

This situation is what made me realize that I needed to help others by providing information, methods, and solutions to our U.S. workforce, especially African-American women, to help them understand what this type of bias looks like and how they can overcome it. All of this happened between 2012-2015, and I’ve been building out content, books, and resources ever since through Rx For Life.

I’m so honored to be a part of the solution and share my journey with others who are experiencing chronic stress and unaware of their option to pursue the least invasive treatment first, which is typically education and time. I want them to know that they have an ally on their side to help them reach true health equity.

Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest struggle was figuring how to mix my faith with science and keep my credibility as I’m telling my story and explaining the traumas caused by chronic workplace stress. Many people don’t see the correlation between stress and mental and physical diseases that sometimes lead to burnout and severe health issues.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Rx For Life – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I am a registered nurse, health equity expert, and author with more than 25 years of experience in healthcare. My company Rx for Life is a health equity consultancy and education agency that helps students and clients rethink chronic stress and overcome bias to prevent burnout.

I’m most proud of the platform that I’ve created to help others and that people truly trust me to have their best interests in mind.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like most about Los Angeles is that I am a native, born and raised. It’s home! I love the weather of course and our beautiful shoreline. I also like our traffic jams!

What I like least about it is the gaps in healthcare, poverty, and the lack of resources for African-Americans to see employment as empowerment instead of as a form of oppression or being disadvantaged.
