Meet Giuseppe & Giuditta Di Bari of G&G Pronto

Today we’d like to introduce you to Giuseppe & Giuditta Di Bari.

Hi Giuseppe & Giuditta, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It all started when both Giuditta and I visited America for the first time—back then, we didn’t even know each other. My first trip was to Los Angeles, and I fell in love with the city immediately; for Giuditta, it was New York. Ever since we met, we’ve dreamed of America and returned there many times as tourists. Then, during the pandemic, I entered the Green Card lottery and was one of the lucky winners. After completing all the paperwork, we decided to leave Italy to pursue the American dream. Los Angeles was our first choice for opening a restaurant, but it was too expensive to start there—what with rent, staff, and taxes—so we decided to start small and came to Iowa, to a small town with great potential. Our restaurant is 100% Italian; at first, it was hard to introduce our cuisine because our menu doesn’t feature any Italian-American dishes, but now that has become our trademark—everyone knows that if they want to taste authentic Italian food, they can come visit us. Life is good here, but who knows? Maybe one day we’ll have a restaurant in Los Angeles, too.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey is never easy—starting with leaving all our loved ones in Italy and moving so far away—but we wanted to put ourselves out there, and we did. There were difficult moments at the beginning, but we overcame them together. Now, our goal is to make ourselves known as widely as possible.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
As previously mentioned, we run a small restaurant serving 100% Italian cuisine. There are no Americanized versions here; we use only Italian products, and when you visit, you feel right at home. We come from Puglia—specifically, I am from Barletta and Giuditta is from Molfetta. Our restaurant reflects our homeland through its dishes and sandwiches, but above all, through our traditions. We bake fresh focaccia daily, and all our pasta dishes are prepared to order; we never use frozen or pre-cooked food. Everything is made fresh on the spot—that is what sets us apart, as you can truly taste the quality and freshness in every dish.

What matters most to you? Why?
We have been in America for just two years, and we have grown significantly since we first arrived. However, our goal is to keep growing—both as a business and as individuals—because you never stop learning. For us, the most important thing is to stay true to our roots and never compromise the value of our product or turn it into something generic. Quality and originality will always come first for us; it is our signature—100% Italian.
