Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Davis, Nathan Edmondson, and David Monster.
The Unimaginary Friendcast is a comedy podcast which blows the lid off of a wide range of essential topics, including but not limited to Scientology, self-help, world travel and much much more. The first episode was recorded on November 2015 in Palms, LA. Since then, they have released an episode every week, and are currently approaching their 200th episode. The Friendcast is produced by the Unimaginary Friend team, which was started by Erin Davis and Nathan Edmondson in 2013, to showcase their comedic short films and web series. In 2014, Erin and Nathan met David Monster through a mutual friend and realized they were each other’s spirit animals. Their mutual desire to unapologetically create led to the birth of the Unimaginary Friendcast and a handful of award-winning films which have screened all over the USA.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Like any relationship where you spend four years together, we’ve had our fair share of ups and downs. There have been fights, blowouts, misunderstandings, and growing pains, many which have played out live on the podcast since our show is live and unedited. We resolve our problems by making rules, such as not allowing ourselves to talk about the 2016 Election, which we violate almost every week.
One way to keep the energy up week after week has been to honor the important milestones as well as our loyal listeners. We produced an unforgettable 100th Episode Awards show that rivaled the glamor and controversy of the Oscars. Our listeners voted on nominees in categories such as “Best Musical Performance,” “Best Returning Guest,” and “Biggest Superfan.” There is a big surprise in store for the upcoming 200th episode.
Please tell us about Unimaginary Friendcast.
We produce The Unimaginary Friendcast, a comedy podcast, where we have elected ourselves your best friend, and the deciders of all human endeavors. We take on every issue from Abortion to the Abomination currently in the White House, and everything in between, like Blonde Bombshells, Acupuncture, and The World’s Creepiest Places. We consider ourselves the “Purveyors of Truth”, or, if pressed for time, we just make it up as we go, and tell you what you should think.
We are also filmmakers and have produced short films, two of which have won numerous awards at Film Festivals. Yes, And, I Do! (2016), and The Aerobitards (2019) which has won four festivals this year, and counting.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Good luck brought us together. It’s really hard to find a creative partnership that works. Despite our major differences, we share a similar comedic taste and drive to share our passion with the world. We have had good luck booking incredibly talented guests such as singer Ryan Beatty, Scientology whistleblower Tony Ortega, and Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal.
Our bad luck seems to be that we’re more creatively minded than business-minded. We are three introverts masquerading as extroverts so it’s been a very slow build monetizing our talents.
