Meet Erika Dawson-Banks of Gorgeous Esthetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Dawson-Banks.

Hi Erika, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started being in love with the care of skin after I had my first daughter in 2010, I became very intrigued in the natural care of skin and beauty of the face so I began to do research here and there on different ways on keeping the skin hydrated. I wanted to own my own skincare company but knew little to nothing about business.

As time went on, I used my own homemade facial oil on myself and children. I would always get compliments on my skin over the years. Then 2019 hit and I was pregnant with my youngest daughter and wondered what God had for me in life, I had a husband with children but no career path. My job at the time wanted me to become a manager but I knew that career path wasn’t for me. So time goes past, I began to pray and dive deeper in my spiritual walk and God told me to go get my esthetician license, so I did it then CO-VID-19 hit….he then said market your facial oil I did and it was a hit I sold out in pre-orders on my soft launch. I would always wear mink strip lashes so I then found a vendor and created my own mink strip lashes, I got certified to do lash extensions and began to do that as well. So I’ve spent the whole 2020 perfecting my craft estheticians are licensed to do facials, lashes, waxing, make-up, body sculpting, etc. So my focus is Facials, Body Sculpting, & Lashing.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has definitely been a struggle being a wife and mother of four, my goals were delayed for many, many years. I had a lot of bumps in the road obtaining hours for my esthetician license during CO-VID-19. I had to learn how to do a lot of important paperwork from googling and trial and error. Even with my skincare products the testing phase was very costly and I took a lot of losses creating my formula. There were many struggles down to labeling errors, ingredient errors, acquiring all the appropriate documents.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
I would tell others to be patient and to continue to perfect their craft, never give up on what you’re doing, stay grounded in your spirituality. Always included God in everything that you do, spend at least 1 hour daily praying. That will keep you grounded, keep you in tune with your spiritual being. Do your own research on everything, don’t think that the standard way is always the way, there might be something different about what you’re doing that requires something else. Keep yourself surrounded by like-minded people, people that want to build you up. NO NEGATIVE TALK…..
