Today we’d like to introduce you to Emmanuel Munda.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a father to two teenagers Aaron and Elle and married to my beautiful artisting wife Kristine. My friends refer to me as a swiss army knife, having multiple skills in different aspects of entertainment, technology and business. Currently, I am involved in multiple businesses. I own CamperSnaps, a photobooth business that specializes in a photo booth inside a vintage camper. I’m a partner in Bebacue Sauce Company, a sauce company specializing in barbecue sauces, hot sauces and rubs. I’m a co-owner of 1104 studios a creative space for filming, rehearsing and virtual events. And own D1 Productions, a company that specializes in video production, music production and live events. All in all, I consider myself a creative consultant and utilize my businesses in my consulting. With that, I have been able to produce events and fundraisers for non-profits and other organizations. I have been blessed with opportunities to be a cinematographer and producer for several music videos, tv pilots, podcasts and films. I have produced dozens of albums hundreds of music pieces and have collaborated with artists such as Phoebe Bridgers, Josh Groban, Justin Klunk, Kris Bowers, Jennifer Paz, DeeDee Magno, Ella Jay Basco, Propaganda, Lewis Frazier and Shedrack Anderson to name a few.
Although for some the pandemic was a struggle, it became an opportunity for me. At the end of 2019, I just quit my cozy job in an international video broadcast to pursue my video production and company and my photo booth business. I also just started Bebacue with a partner who needed help with marketing design. I pulled out just enough money from my 401k to kickstart my businesses and survive for a few months. Then March 2020 happened. All of the bookings for the photobooth stopped. Every live and film production I was on stopped. And although I quit my full-time job in broadcast I was till working part-time for a non-profit, the Scleroderma Foundation of California in community development, and all our events and fundraisers were cancelled. I saw the potential devastation the lockdown was about to deal not just for me but for other organizations. I joined chats, zooms and webinars on how to deal with the lockdown and work stoppage. I found myself in a zoom room with CEOs of billion-dollar companies, small businesses, churches and non-profs all with the same problem and all working towards a solution. “Virtual” was the new normal. I challenged myself to learn everything I can about integrating virtual with fundraising.
With 8 years in the nonprofit sector and 15 years in broadcast, it was the perfect opportunity. Fundraisers knew nothing about video production and my experience in broadcast was all about streaming and video production. From my home office, I put together my first virtual fundraiser. It involved a 6 our “stream-a-thon” where I invited all my friends in the entertainment industry, patients from the Scleroderma Foundation. With a total of 32 acts, guests and speakers we raised enough money to purchase zoom accounts for the Foundation that would handle virtual meetings with patients. For many of the participants, this was their first experience with zoom so I was able to teach performers how to build virtual concert setups with lighting and audio, I was able to help people embrace streaming and interacting on a new platform. I was able to make zoom do things that zoom wasn’t ready for. All from my home office. Other nonprofits got wind of the event via social media. Very soon, I was being called to produce virtual fundraisers, dance recitals, concerts, and podcasts. I had clients from all over the country “zooming” into my office and being broadcast all over the web. I handled virtual mayoral banquets, virtual golf tournament dinners, virtual dance parties, and silent auctions. I went to locations to set up small studios for clients. I built streaming setups for churches, schools and Boys and Girls Clubs. I consulted teachers, artists, business execs and several friends in setting up their home for remote working.
This was the new normal for most of 2020 and 2021. When things started opening up and restrictions slowly loosened I was able to provide my services for hybrid events, live concerts and performances, video archiving and social media video production. Then opportunities came to film music videos, pilots and documentaries. From the shutdown to this date I have produced over 200 videos/performances/fundraisers/events and have helped raised over 4 million dollars for non-profit organizations. Although working for clients was great in the Summer of 2022, I was finally able to start my own project, CamperSnaps Sessions. With the help of some of my friends CamperSnaps Sessions is now a growing youtube channel that specializes in live music performances in a tiny vintage camper. Think of it as a Tiny Desk Concert but tinier. So far, we have produced over 80 videos with five artists and have lined up several more for the new year. I hope to grow it to a place where we can travel to destinations and film musicians all over the country. I’m looking forward to any new challenges and will always be ready to grow.
Why do I do the things I do? In 2012 my wife, Kristine, was diagnosed with a rare and deadly disease, Scleroderma with Interstitial Lung Disease. She was given five years to live. I worked 2 or more jobs at a time to make sure that she can quit hers as she became more ill. She has gone thru several rounds of chemotherapy, hospitalizations, health scares and near-death experiences. In through all of this, I saw her strength. She fought through so much but in giving care, I sacrificed I lot. And even through all this, she encouraged me to pursue my dreams and to create and do what makes me happy. I left a comfy stable income but I’m now thriving creatively, mentally, spiritually and financially because of her. She was given five years to live; we’ll be celebrating 11 years since diagnosis this year. I’m looking forward to spending more time with her while I do what I love, creating, producing, consulting and helping people out.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Finding projects and clients during a pandemic. Adapting to the new normal of a virtual world. My wife’s health scares.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
As a creative consultant, I help in bringing visions to reality. I specialize in video production, live events, virtual productions and performances, and creative spaces. I’m a swiss army knife of skills and experience in events, fundraising, video, music, theatre production, and business. I’ve been able to produce hundreds of videos and virtual events that have helped nonprofits raise over 4 million dollars since 2020 and have consulted businesses to stay afloat during a global pandemic. I’m ready to help you or your organization turn your vision into reality.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
