Meet Emma Anderson of Casita Bodywork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emma Anderson.

Emma Anderson

Hi Emma, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As of November 2023, I work full-time at my practice Casita Bodywork where I incorporate advanced Sports Bodywork techniques and premium Massage Therapy for a one-of-a-kind experience that caters to every member’s needs.

I learned very quickly that Personal Development was a non-negotiable that would make or break me as a new business owner.

Owning a wellness practice was never my dream but has become one of the greatest adventures of my life. Self-care had become a part of my life several years prior and became a close ally during one of the darkest periods of my life. After my father passed away in August of 2021, I experienced a deep grief-wrapped regret for not living my full potential while he was alive.

As the Grief Waves hit, I would instinctively begin mobility drills, including foam rolling and yoga. I realized there was a connection between emotional regulation and Soft Tissue Mobilization. The idea of Casita Bodywork began.

I’m still not sure what possessed me to immediately quit my job as a Realtor, enroll in Massage School, and sign an office lease, but I had never been so sure about anything in my life. This was my Hail Mary attempt at living a purposeful life grounded in personal values.

Performance Recovery is something I am familiar with on a first-hand level as I have competed in various Sports for about 25 years. I wanted to be able to help active competitors and former athletes find their Wellness groove in a more effective manner.

Shortly after graduating in July 2022, I was offered the opportunity to train under Velocity Performance’s Sports Med company, Vive Recovery. There, I have worked on clients from the NFL, USA Cycling, UCLA Beach Volleyball, USA Volleyball, Olympics, and more.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Yes.

Just kidding.

Or am I?

The types of Obstacles rather than the specific situations is what I have learned to detect and handle accordingly. The two arenas of challenges I occasionally enter are the “out-of-my-control” and ” defective thought/behavior pattern” situations.

Learning to blindly trust my unknown capabilities is a daily work in progress. Developing core principles have made my time in the two arenas more tolerable. The more present I am and able to effectively listen, the faster I am able to graciously exit the arenas.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I like to see myself as your friendly Wellness guide who can explain complex information in a way that anyone can understand. With the vast amounts of information we see on the internet, it can be difficult to differentiate between facts and clickbait.

At Casita Bodywork, I help clients feel comfortable in the driver’s seat of their Self Care, and that begins with education. I have a wide range of clientele that range from high performance athletes to folks looking to manage chronic pains.

Massage Therapy has an incredibly vast word bank to describe what all Massage Therapists are and do. Bodyworker, Masseuse, Manual Therapist, Soft Tissue Therapist: the list goes on.

It’s all preference, a lot like Massage itself. I personally believe vernacular makes a difference in setting expectations. Gently explaining the differences can create a positive rapport that establishes open communication with the client and myself. Clear communication is key in creating a comfortable environment.

There is no better feeling than seeing a client improve the quality of their life with the guidance and resources I chose based on their needs, and their needs only.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
This is such a great question that can be answered in many fantastic examples. Yet, there is one that reigns supreme in my neurodivergent brain.

Becoming an effective listener is the key to building successful client relationships. Providing Services is a selfless act that calls for ego-checking and a dabble in personal development.

Serving people is HARD when we have failed at serving ourselves first; it’s a two-way street. When we are so concerned with looking like a know-it-all or how cool we look for a job we did six years ago, the whole appointment is a catastrophic failure.

It is a tango of the soul to take care of ourselves in a way that falls in line with our moral principles. How can anyone expect to hear what another person is saying when they can’t understand themselves?

There is no greater feeling than feeling heard.
