Meet Elisa of Los Angeles / OC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elisa.

Hi Elisa , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story started when I was a child. My mom would do egg limpias for my siblings and me. She would cleanse our home with sahumerio de chiles, light candles for abundance, harmony, and health, and offer prayers. All of these curanderismo practices were evident throughout my childhood. They intrigued me, and I noticed the changes in our home and within myself whenever my mom used one of these healing modalities. These early experiences led me to believe that energy healing practices can be life-changing.
In March of 2018, I was introduced to an acupuncturist based in Boyle Heights/Los Angeles. At the same office, a healing practitioner offered Reiki, a healing modality I became curious about. I started reading about Reiki and how it helps support healing of the spirit, mind, body, and soul. Intuitively, I knew I was in the right place to receive healing from both an acupuncturist and a Reiki practitioner.

When I received Reiki healing, I felt a sense of peace, grounding, and release from suppressed emotions. With time and a few Reiki sessions, I knew in my spirit that I needed to learn Reiki for myself. Around the summer of 2018, I took Reiki Level One, and I felt a shift within my body. Within the following year, I completed the other two Reiki levels.

My Reiki practice took time to master. It required me to believe in myself and in the healing energy I was transmitting to my clients. Reiki also helped me see my shadow aspects, where self-doubt, co-dependence, and fear had been hidden for many years.

In January 2020, I decided to start stepping outside of my comfort zone my “fear”—and offer Reiki healing services to my friends. My skills developed and strengthened as I continued to practice. I also participated in healing circles, where I received healing myself. One day, at a healing event, a participant encouraged me to create an Instagram account and offer my Reiki services.

I was scared and nervous about putting myself out in public, but I created the Instagram account and invited my friends to follow and share my page so others could visit and learn about my Reiki services.

Sometime in April 2020, I decided to let my family know that I was certified in Reiki healing and wanted to offer my healing practices to them and la comunidad. I did receive some backlash from family members, while others accepted me. I was raised in Catholicism, so Curanderismo and Reiki healing practices were not common conversations within my family. Because of this, I was afraid to share with them that Reiki healing brings me joy.

As I developed my Reiki skills and strengthened my healing practices, I was also receiving healing myself. Reiki became a pathway that opened me to other healing experiences that helped me look within myself and go deeper into my own healing.

I knew I was ready for change in my life, but I wasn’t sure what that would look like or where it would take me. I am thankful for my mentors, past and present, who have helped me heal, transmute, grow into a better version of myself, work through my shadows, and share my medicine with others.

I continue to grow as a healer and learn new practices that I intuitively connect with. I feel connected to my ancestors, God, ascended masters, archangels, and angels, who support me, guide me, and show me pathways to help me heal and support others in their healing as well.

With all of these healing experiences, the guidance of my mentors, and the spiritual knowledge I have gained from the healing practices I’ve learned and continue to learn, I incorporate what resonates with me into my healing practices with my clients. My journey continues to unfold, and I remain open to learning, growing, healing, and sharing what I have learned with others.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The healing road and building a healing business have not always been smooth. When I first started, I had no idea what it took to run a small business. I had questions about what prices to offer, how to promote my business, where to offer my healing services, and how to find community-based spaces that felt welcoming, comfortable, and safe for my clients. I also had to learn how to create flyers and figure out the best ways to share my services with others.
All of these thoughts and questions came up at once, and at times I felt confused about where to start. I realized that I didn’t have to have everything figured out right away. Networking, doing my own research, and connecting with others in the community helped me shape and grow my healing business.

I am still developing new ideas and learning along the way. I’m even considering revamping the name of my business as I continue to grow and evolve. For me, the journey has been about giving myself permission to learn, make adjustments, and trust that my business will continue to develop as I do.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My professional career is in social services, where I work with unaccompanied children and their families. This is my full-time job, and I’ve been in the social services field for about 12 years. Throughout my career, I’ve gained so much knowledge and perspective on how to guide and support others through their own journeys.
I love incorporating some of my healing practices into my work in social services, such as breathwork, pláticas, and Reiki. I’ve seen how these practices can create space for people to feel supported, grounded, and connected to themselves, especially during challenging moments in their lives.

My healing business is currently part-time, but it is something I’m passionate about , brings me joy to my heart and continue to grow. My long-term vision is that when my healing business grows substantially and I’m able to support myself through it, I will transition to working part-time in social services and eventually become a full-time healer.

What I’m most proud of is being able to bring both sides of my experience together. My work in social services has taught me how to listen, guide, advocate, and support people through difficult experiences, while my healing journey has taught me the importance of looking within, healing, and creating space for transformation.

I believe this combination of professional experience and personal healing experience is what sets me apart. I’m able to meet people where they are, with compassion and understanding, while offering healing practices that I genuinely believe in and continue to learn from myself.
