Meet Elisa Fowler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elisa Fowler.

Elisa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up, it was just me and my mother after my father passed away when I was five years old. We were always on the go, but for some reason all forms of entertainment were always introduced to me; whether it was live music, plays, Disney movies, television series, etc. It was always in my face and ever since I was a little girl I always knew I wanted to be in the entertainment industry. These forms of art became my safe place. I was able to find myself through the many films and television shows I watched. I knew this was my path and I would get there no matter what.

I was always intrigued with the uproar blockbuster movies made opening weekend, how quickly one person could blow up from a simple role in a movie or television series, the impact a story could make on someone – I wanted to do the same thing. My grandmother introduced me to the Transformers and Pirates of the Caribbean trilogies when I was about seven years old. Me and her would attend every midnight opening show. When I attend these events, I enjoyed seeing the masses of people these films brought out and the communities it made through their fan bases. I was like oh yeah I have to do this. From that moment on, I knew I would one day bring my own community together with stories I would tell and one day hopefully make an impact on someone’s life.

Once I started to pursue this career, I dabbled into a few different aspects of filmmaking while I was attending community college. I messed around with editing, operating a DSLR camera for video, photography, etc. – in all trying to create my own content. Since then, I have graduated with an Associates in Humanities and Fine Arts and decided the film school would be the next step for me to find my true passion in the film industry.

Since attending film school, I found my love for directing, screenwriting, and producing. I have continued to work on this craft of mine by writing scripts that reflect on my personal experiences and directing them. I found my love for producing through producing my own short film and helping a few of my peers produce their own projects. I’ve been living in Los Angeles for two years now and have met some of the most talented people. I’m beyond blessed and excited that I am on this journey I knew was destined for me ever since I was a little girl.

Has it been a smooth road?
One of the hardest things I went through was moving to Los Angeles. Although I only moved about two and a half hours away from my hometown everything changed. I was so used to living a 9-5 steady day. But, when you move to such big city that is always on the move you have to adapt quickly. When I arrived it LA I thought I was going to be hitting the town and immediately doing big things – boy was it a reality check. It was clear to me the minute I started to pursue my career here that you must fight for your place. Since then, I have been pushing myself non-stop to work hard and make myself proud.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned by becoming a filmmaker is – You don’t live the typical lifestyle an average person does and with that you lose a lot of people along the way, and I did. I lost a lot in my life when I moved here and it really took a toll on me until I realized that in order to survive you must be strong and put everything you experience into your craft. It only makes it more real and more you.

Like anything in life things come and go and you can’t expect your life to always stay the same. I’m proud to say that I have accepted the changes in my life because I am doing what I love and nothing in the world can keep me from that. Becoming a filmmaker has been one of the most full-filling and stressful experiences I have gone through. It has its ups and downs, but after all the sacrifices you’ve made you feel full when your vision is brought to life.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am currently working on my dream production company “L.o.v.e Productions”. Each letter stands for something – L(loyalty), O(opportunities), V(visions), and E(equality). I created this company to have for myself once I graduate film school to put all my shorts under and hopefully help some of my peers produce their content under it as well. It is not legal just yet, but my hope is to have it legalized within the next year.

I’m also excited to announce I just wrapped my newest short in February. Which I’m beyond excited to share with everyone once it has finished its rounds in post-production. My next film is currently in pre-production, which will begin shooting in 2020. But, most recently I just shot my first commercial which will be very soon.

My ultimate goal is to become a film director, producer, and writer. I want to do it all – I want to direct and write my own films, I want to produce my own. I really want to tell my stories, share others stories, and in all hope to make an impact on the world through doing this.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that it is a very fast-paced lifestyle that always keeps you on your toes. The only thing I dislike would of course be the crazy traffic!
