Meet Edward Farley of Bali Juice

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edward Farley.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born and raised in London, UK, and over the  years have spent a lot of time traveling to Asia, learning the culture, cuisine, and lifestyle. When I moved to America I used my travels to my advantage and sourced products and ingredients not available in the US market to start two companies in the food and beverage industry:

SLRRRP: Our business SLRRRP is the first company to make pre-packaged Vodka shots with a unique plant-based gelatin formula which gives it a thicker texture than a pure liquid and arguably is more enjoyable for a consumer than drinking it straight. It is available in many sizes and flavors.

Bali Juice: Bali, is the first retail-ready Mangosteen juice in the US. Until now, Mangosteen has been sold as a supplement for very high prices due to the logistics and rareness of the fruit. It contains something called a Xanthone which is a natural antioxidant and so we import and sell directly and through distributors to retail customers as well as online and other methods.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Definitely not! Starting a business is never a smooth road. You have to be focused every day of the week and at all hours brainstorming and constantly thinking of ways to improve your product or service. It is often a common mistake to think you can do everything yourself and one of the great tools is to learn how to work with others and use this to the advantage of the business. Having a quality team around you for support and focusing on what each individual is good at are very important aspects otherwise you can be overloaded which typically causes stress and this can affect the way you think.

Pursuing your passion is always a great thing. But when that passion is starting a new business, you rely on other people or companies to take a chance on you which of course is a risk for both parties in a new relationship and so you have to be not only be prepared but open minded as well as willing to walk away if necessary.

In my business we import and wholesale, therefore quality control and logistics are a huge importance as too many mistakes can cause disasters. However, making mistakes improve one’s abilities and future success. Personal touch also goes a long way – too often corporations make it difficult to speak to the team and so I believe that offering not only more transparency but good relationship management is vital to success.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I have two companies, SLRRRP and Bali Juice which are consumer products that we import and distribute. Ultimately we are brand builders, right now both companies are in the beverage space, one alcohol and one non-alcohol. A lot of people ask how that works and whether they benefit each other or not and I think with any two business there are similarities that work and there are also differences. SLRRRP sells without any education needed and it sells very well, Bali requires education but will find very loyal buyers once we have educated and so, put simply, it is two different strategies to build these brands.

We spend a lot of time innovating and finding the best ways to be ahead of competitors, attract new clients as well as keeping our clients happy.

I think we are most proud of introducing something that people love. When you introduce something that is not available or that has not been done, you take a huge risk – how do you know people will love or hate it? Having been in the market for over a year and having expanded nationwide as well as internationally with some of the largest corporations in the country as our partners is something we are extremely proud of. We love to hear criticism as it’s the best way to understand how others think and we of course love to hear how much people enjoy what we have introduced. Customer feedback is something we take very seriously and I think it’s important for all businesses to do so.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up I have always been obsessed with business and always want to know how things work and how they make money. My first business was a tuition company in my teens where I sourced university students and paired them with parents looking for more youthful tutors. I read a lot of books on self-starters and autobiographies to inspire myself and whilst I was never an academic nor did I go to college, I learnt all of my business knowledge from my mentors, partners and from real life experience. Everyone is different, and everyone learns in different ways. I prefer to go out and see things myself and speak to people instead of reading a book on business or how to run a business as I find that people are the best way to learn as we do from one another.

I am so proud of my hard working grandson and I do like the photo!
I do hope that we will be able to buy both products over here in the UK soon. I have tasted them both and want to do so again!
