Meet Eden Bekele of Selam Skin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eden Bekele.

Hi Eden, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Selam Skin started from my own personal struggle with my skin. I dealt with combination and oily skin, breakouts, sensitivity, acne scars, and eventually cystic acne. For years, I tried countless products and constantly switched between different routines, while also using makeup to hide the things I felt insecure about.

Eventually, I realized that I needed to stop chasing quick fixes and focus on finding balance for my skin. Through years of trial and error, I began creating and using products that actually worked for me. As I shared them with the people around me, I saw how much of a difference they could make for others as well.

That experience became the foundation for Selam Skin. “Selam” means peace in Amharic, and that meaning really represents what I wanted the brand to stand for: helping people feel more confident and at peace with their skin instead of constantly worrying about the next breakout or imperfection.

What started as a personal journey has grown into a skincare brand focused on creating elevated, effective products that help people find balance, confidence, and a little more peace in their everyday skincare routine. Today, my goal is to help customers on that journey one person at a time.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been learning how to build a business from the ground up while figuring out everything from product development and branding to marketing, finances, and customer growth. As a small business, I’ve also had to be very intentional about where I invest my time and money. There have been moments of doubt and setbacks, but each challenge has taught me something new and helped me become a better business owner.

We’ve been impressed with Selam Skin, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I think the best way to find mentors and build a strong network is to genuinely connect with people and not be afraid to ask questions. I’ve found that networking doesn’t always have to be formal—you can learn a lot by connecting with other business owners, attending events, joining online communities, and simply starting conversations with people who have experience in areas you’re trying to grow in.
