Today we’d like to introduce you to Eddie Mickenberg.
Hi Eddie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in San Diego, CA and when I was 19yo I moved to LA to start my education in interior design almost 17 years ago. For a good 11 years I have worked for established interior design firms as their lead interior designer. In 2015 I had an overlap where I started my business, independently and worked on side projects around my full time position. Then when Covid happened, I went fully independent in 2020. There are a large amount of details in between. But, the most honest answer to how I got to where I am today was my ability to get up every single time I failed and kept going. Learning, adapting, getting better for myself everyday. This is a constant practice, truly believing in myself that I am capable and able when all the cards are against me.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Early in my career, I didn’t know making mistakes and failing was just a part of the process. I struggled in the administrative parts of the business working for other people, but I learned a lot under someone else’s roof and that’s how I built the confidence today on the business side. No one tells you in school that 80%-90% is all business and the rest is focused on interior design, as a business owner.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Eddie Mickenberg Interior Design?
I own an interior design business in Los Angeles, CA focusing on luxury residential interior design and new build. The services I provide in interior design come from a place of really listening to my clients wants, needs, and lifestyle as a priority. I am also very flexible with style, although I market my personal style for branding. I’m proud of the growth of my business and the ability to be resourceful with marketing to establish my name in Los Angeles. For readers who are looking to start their own business, my brand is built over trial and error, constantly refining my public forum to cast a net to the clients and projects I want. My brand aligns with only luxury residential interior design. From New Build, Remodel, Furnishings, and Decor for final touches. I provide services as well if you are only looking to work on partial of those options as well with plans to execute the project financially.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was very quiet, shy, didn’t speak up, was always in my room. I think at that time of my life I was building confidence, but the confidence came later in life at 18ish. Finally loving myself enough to explore my truest self. Happy to say things have changed for the better building the confidence I wish I had when I was young. I did however love painting and being creative because art was an outlet for me to escape and get in touch with myself, feel happy, and safe. It’s a privilege, and also proud to say that my business isn’t built on the legs of having a ton of money, which sounds counter intuitive to a lot of people getting into business. I started my business with the intention of loving what I do that truly feeds my soul and makes me happy. I believe the best creative people start that way. It’s a humbling feeling when my clients tell me they feel that I truly care in a different way that isn’t hyper focused on the business part, but the artistic part creating a feeling in a space that makes them feel special and elevated. That always means a lot and is a testament to the younger years of my life being an artist at the core of my heart.
