Meet Eboni Berry of Hair Divas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eboni Berry.

Eboni, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As the Founder and CEO of Hair Divas Inc., I started with the goal of raising the bar in the Ethnic Hair Care community as well as to provide the world with excellent products and services in the hair industry. I’m a licensed Cosmetologist, specializing in Hair Extensions and Ethnic Hair Care. I’ve been doing hair extensions for over 10 years and have been performing ethnic hairstyling techniques and trends most of my life.

Born in a small town in Iowa, with roots in Mississippi and Barbados I had a flair for hair at a very young age. Early on I acted on the understanding that our hair has a way of defining us. I began learning hairstyling techniques as early as 5 years old. Thanks to my Aunt Lisa who was an expert Braider in the family, I watched her diligently and began emulating her techniques. As a result, I was styling my own hair as well as other family members in braided styles by the age of 7. From there my journey into hair continued, eventually giving me all the tools and experience I needed to become a Hair Expert. I experienced many struggles along the way but remained steadfast in my quest for success by working hard and staying focused.

I live a busy lifestyle, as a mother and an active career woman so I can personally relate to the simplicity and ease that hair extensions have to offer. I wear them regularly so over the years I’ve experienced all the pros and cons that wearing extensions has to offer. Therefore I’ve honed my skills as a Stylist to allow me to make clients hair look unbe-weavably amazing by installing flawless hair extensions while customizing texture and color to match the extensions as well. This also drives my desire to provide the best hair money can buy, giving my clients the ease of being able to get up and go just like women who have that hair/ability naturally.

My passion for hair and beauty has brought to the level of success I’m experiencing today. I own my own businesses as a Hair Stylist and Hair distributor here in the LA area, I’m also launching a new Eyebrow Microblading & Permanent Makeup business which will give clients a one-stop shop for all things beauty.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Before going back to school for Cosmetology, I struggled with the instability of working in the corporate world for several years, going from one job to the next with no substantial increases in income. I was a single mother who wanted to provide the best for my young son and punching a clock alone, wasn’t making ends meet.

Eventually, I made the not so wise decision to start moonlighting as an Exotic Dancer. This decision slowly caused my life to spiral out of control. I got involved with all the things that working in a fast money industry could bring, from drugs and alcohol abuse to trouble with the law. After bumping my head a few times, I realized that the only way to achieve the career and financial achievements I dreamed of was by going back to school, getting my license in Cosmetology and working a job that I could never be fired from.

I knew this goal was achievable and my struggles reignited and entrepreneurial spirit that I’ve always had, From the age of 18-25 I maintained my own business selling incense and body oils at festivals as well as two retail stores that carried my merchandise. I decided to move forward on my journey to success by utilizing my natural talents with hair as well as my experience in business to begin to build my future hair empire.

Hair Divas – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Hair Divas Inc. is a company that provides top quality hair to customers wearing hair extensions and also provides professional hair services to clients, whether they wear hair extensions or not. I decided to launch this business after growing weary of sending my customers to other companies to get the hair I’d be installing. The goal was to cut out the middle man and move those dollars into my business. I launched my hair website in 2013 which has led to me now selling hair in my first physical retail location in Burbank. I’ve collaborated with the salon I contract with, Joseph Lamar Salon to make this happen, we launched with a stellar red carpet charity event this past February. It was an amazing event! My goal is to have Hair Divas hair carried in salons all over Los Angeles.

I specialize in hair extensions as well as ethnic hair care. I’m best known for creating very natural looking, undetectable hair extensions, I’m also well known for effective hair care treatments and straightening hair. I’m most proud of the great reputation I’ve built over the years for making people happy. I’m also proud of my growing hair extension line which provides some of the best hair money can buy. In the day and age of everyone and their mother selling hair on the internet, great hair is hard to find so I’m proud to be able to give my clients exactly that.

What sets me apart from others in my area of the beauty industry is the fact that I’m extremely professional (I thank my corporate background for that), I treat every client like royalty, providing them with everything they need to feel comfortable, I have a great sense of humor which making time spent in the salon feel fun & effortless, I don’t take shortcuts, I never over-book which is an epidemic in the ethnic hair care industry and I educate my clients thoroughly on how to care for their hair & make it look fabulous even when I’m not around.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
When I think of being successful, my definition of that would be financial comfort and stability, the ability to make a good amount of money while doing something I truly love and am passionate about. Success is knowing that when I leave this earth, my children, and future grandchildren will have everything they need to secure their futures as well as a family legacy to carry on. Success is making others feel good about themselves, improving their quality of life and confidence. Success is becoming a household name and keeping up a positive reputation in my industry and among my peers. Being able to be a blessing to others and the ability to become a role model after everything I’ve been through is true success. Lastly, to have the resources educate, employ and motivate others to strive to be their best and pursue their dreams to the fullest is another form of success in my book. I hope and pray that my journey in the hair industry continues in an upward spiral straight to success.
