Meet Dyanne Williams of Dyanne Williams Mosaics in Beverly Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dyanne Williams.

Dyanne, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I experimented with many art mediums, but once I discovered mosaics I knew that is what I wanted to do. I love the gorgeous colors, the shine, the feel of glass. Fortunately, the discovery of my love of mosaics coincided with a resurgence of architectural mosaics. I love creating art that is functional and enhances the beauty of a home or business.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s always rough as an artist. There is always either too much work at once or you’re wondering where your next commission is going to come from. As an artist, you also have to deal with every part of your business from marketing to taxes to contracts, and this is something most artists have not been taught. For mosaics specifically, it is also difficult to have clients understand the costs. The materials are extremely expensive and the process is very time consuming.

Please tell us about Dyanne Williams Mosaics.
I specialize in architectural mosaics. This is essentially any mosaic that is permanently installed in a home or business. I create both interior or exterior pieces for floors, walls, pretty much anywhere. I feel that my art has exceptional movement and flow and that I’m creative in finding solutions for merging the clients wants with physical limitations.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I loved collecting rocks when I was a kid. Once I found some awesome rocks while in Michigan on a family trip. I was told I couldn’t take the rocks home, but my uncle snuck them in when he loaded our luggage in the car. I still have a couple of the rocks… maybe I’ll find a use for them in a mosaic someday!
