Today we’d like to introduce you to Droid Bishop.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I come from a family of professional musicians so I started playing the guitar at age six. I also began playing the piano early on and picked up the drums in high school. I spent a lot of my life playing in rock bands and have been fortunate to tour as a guitar player for lots of people including grammy-nominated artists Mike Posner and Sam Sparro. In the last year or so I have stepped back from the “Hired Gun” role to focus on Droid Bishop. Throughout my career, I have fallen in love with many styles of music and have been incorporating these different genres into an electronic/ synth-based vibe. I’m coming up on eight years since I started this project and I feel I’m in a really strong/creative space. I look forward to making a lot more music.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Anyone in the entertainment and art world knows that it is never a smooth road. I have dealt with a lot of rejection and failure which is often the best way to learn and grow. Like many artists, I have struggled with alcoholism/drug abuse and depression. I have jeopardized a few gigs due to these issues. Also, because of being highly intoxicated, I permanently damaged some nerves in my left hand that has forced me to relearn and change how I play the guitar. Fortunately, I knew in order to achieve my goals I would have to get clean and I haven’t had a drink in 3 years.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am a music producer who specializes in retro-inspired electronic music. What sets me apart is my love of fusing many musical genres and flavors into a nice synthed-out package. I’m really proud of my latest album “Music” which is a true culmination of my journey to entertain and enlighten listeners with a smorgasbord of unexpected colors and sound.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
To me, success is getting paid to do what you truly love. I am successful. I may not be rich (not yet) but I am blessed and successful. I pay my bills from the music I create and have fans that seem to really enjoy what I’m doing. That being said, there is still a lot I want to accomplish and higher mountains will be climbed.
