Meet Darryl Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darryl Williams.

Darryl, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born in Compton, CA and raised in south-central L.A (Yes its a Difference) 2nd out of 4 brother’s, I knew I would blossom into the person I am now. I’ve always loved camera’s, as a young thespian I’ve enjoyed using that camera to film certain things in my life whether it was the clouds in the sky or grass on the ground, I guess I just loved how the footage turned out. It wasn’t until I stepped in front of the camera and seen myself for the first time. I called myself an actor way before I was. I remember going to high school (Lawndale High) Taking all the acting classes, asking questions “Who is this?, Who is that? I’ve always admired anyone that would get on tv or on stage in front of a crowd and make a fool of themselves.

Fast forward to Graduating high school (2007) and attending a HBCU (Wilberforce University) that same year I grew within my passion, Although When I was young and growing up I still kept in mind my passion (Acting). While attending the WU I took all the classes whether it was Drama, Communications, Broadcast, Public Relations. I took on plays and open mic from organization to organization, I guess I didn’t know it yet but I was preparing myself for greatness. Upon graduating I recently ran into a fraternity brother of mine thats a Director, we chopped it up for a minute and made plans to start production in L.A. My first major film was called “BLACK BOOTS” and from there I grind and grind and grind. Now I’m here in my acting career. I never took favors to early.

Has it been a smooth road?
Ha !! Smooth road? I think not! I feel without any struggle there’s no progress. I went through trial and error. After Black Boots it seems everyone around me was booking auditions to Films and all. I felt bad for myself because I would do all the right things but I couldn’t get one auditions or any callbacks. I remember people around me would say certain things to put me down and would tell me “this is not making no money!” “Why don’t you get a real Job!” I kept going I never gave up I put my own skits or short films or anything I could make not to just show people but myself that if I keep working things will fall in place. My struggles were wanting validation from people thats just like me. Little did I know. The person in the mirror was all the validation I needed. Also I struggle to find jobs because I had just graduated college and no one was hiring. Even with a degree, I was overqualified… It didn’t make sense to me but Acting did. This year I dropped my first Lead film in Theaters called “I MISS YOU MARY’.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m an actor, I specialize in persuading my audience that this is real life with emotions and feelings through the tv screen or live in front of you. I’m known for being funny and loving everyone around me, my energy is beautiful. I’m most proud of how my acting is going. What sets me apart from others is I’m bringing something different to the table and its not forks and knives. I distinguish myself I took the stairs not the elevator.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
L.A Well I grew up here my whole life, so I’ll say the opportunity for greatness. No dislikes.
