Today we’d like to introduce you to Dakas White.
Dakas, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born and raised in Baltimore, MD September 5th, 1993. I was born in John Hopkins Hospital. Half my life I grew up, I foster homes & group homes, do too a false accusation on my mother. I have five kids currently at the age of 26, Jaedin(seven years) Dai’yon(five years) Promise(five years) Dakas(one year) & Ry’Lei(nine months). I grew up wanted to play football and dreams of being professional but due to my behavior in school, I was expelled & eventually dropped out. I’ve legally been test for lead paint poisoning & diagnosed with ADHD & Depression throughout my childhood also.
So my career as a rap artist started back in 2015, I was inspired by Chief Keef, Lil Durk, Soulja Boy & Lil Wayne at the time. So I decided to give rapping a try, I started rapping on Facebook & releasing songs on SoundCloud I started gaining attention & fans throughout the entire Baltimore City. I then started Using Instagram for more exposure. I started taking rap serious when a fellow rap artist from my city that go by President Davo reaches out to me on Instagram and he wanted to hop on a remix to my song that was always a remix of T-Wayne’s song “Nasty”.
I’ve performed at several sold-out shows in Baltimore, signed over 30 autographs at a 92Q Jams summer event, opened up performed for YFN Lucci, Blac Youngsta, Kash Doll, & Young Dolph. local radio play through 92Q Jams, and I’m currently working/partnering with DTLR in Baltimore.
My Instagram is now verified and I have 45.9K followers, I have over 30+ music videos on YouTube and over ten mixtapes/projects available for streaming & download throughout Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, Spinrilla & SoundCloud.
I plan to take my music career as far as doing tours internationally and building wealth for my kids and my kids only, I’m not too big on family because to my family is just a word I’m big on loyalty, I have friends that are more loyal than my own family so yeah loyalty matters a lot to me.
Has it been a smooth road?
The struggle with my music career is missing out on opportunities that cost a lot of money and I couldn’t or can’t afford at times, and the biggest struggle is just living in Baltimore City because we are not known for music and it’s hard to get out of Baltimore without being killed or catching life in prison.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am basically my business my name Yung Inkky is a walking business. I’m just another music artist trying to be a star, I’m known for rapping of course and also known for acting in my city in a YouTube series called “Bad News Baltimore”. I am mostly proud that kids and also other adults can say to me I inspiring them. What sets me apart from most Baltimore rap artists is that I’m not afraid to step out my comfort zone and be different.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I like LA because it’s NOT Baltimore lol. I don’t like that everything is so far in Los Angeles lol, back in Baltimore I can’t walk or ride a bike East, West, North & South.
