Today we’d like to introduce you to DahT SouL.
Thanks for sharing your story with us DahT SouL. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Man where to start. Hey now, I moved to LA from the Bay Area and was just a regular kid. I started Krump dancing in 08 and joined Street Kingdom in 2010 and it’s been crazy ever since then. I’ve been able to do so many cool things. After my time with Street kingdom, I joined the Academy of Villains and was able to experience dance in a whole new light. My parents are musicians and music has always been a part of my life. In 2016 I decided to really give it a go. I can sing and always have been able to so it wouldn’t be Sense for me to not give it a go, and that’s currently where I’m at now. Music is the love and art and everything that comes with it. I’ve been able to perform and make music with my extremely talented friends who are all going to be something someday. It’s been a real blessing cause of my love for people I started an art show called SOULTOPIA two years ago in March of 2017 we just celebrated the two year anniversary and I can say that doing that had been one of the best decisions of my life. I rarely perform at them because they are for everyone one, I enjoy putting things together, bringing people together, connecting dots in people’s lives. I’d like to think of myself as the plug lol because I got or know a lot of what people want and need. This journey almost was cut short just this past March I had a bought with cancer and I beat it! This album I have coming out 8/24 titled “4106” is a reflection of that. It’s everything up until March 6th and on. This project means so much cause again it has all my talented friends on it and that I have the ability to still make music. My life was really almost lost but GOD is 4real faithful and a healer. I plan on Soultopia being a “Coachella” type of show in about two years I’m pushing and working hard to give my people a platform to really express their art at a high level. I could go on and on and on and on but shoot I’m happy and GOD is good and my people are good.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The journey constantly has its ups and downs. Dealing with different types of people on a daily can really show you who you are as a person. But I don’t let people sway me. I’ve grown thick skin.
The biggest obstacle was indeed living with cancer from 2017- March 2019. My health was deteriorating all 2018 wasn’t able to get health insurance until this year in Feb. I finally figured out what was going on and it was a tumor in my colon which was indeed cancerous. Soultopia usually happens March, June, and September. But I wasn’t able to have the event in March due to me getting out the hospital on March 6th soultopia and my album all had to be pushed back. But I’m blessed and happy to be alive and healthy again. It was a wild two years
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the SouL.Topia story. Tell us more about the business.
SOULTOPIA!
It’s everything it sounds like
It’s really a vibe that touches the soul
Many different art forms brought together for an amazing night
Being a dancer that’s ventured into music
I know it’s a lot of us that have talents in different art forms and are amazing at it
Soultopia is the platform for all of that, all the way from cooking, to fashion, to dance, live painting. You name it. I try my best to have it all at soultopia. I put them on for the people. It’s no politics in this if you are good at what you do and are serious about it I want you apart of the show. Art is love it’s a characteristic of love and I want people to feel that every time they come to soultopia, this is a special event it operates as selflessness.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck is more like reaping and sowing. I know the love I put out I’m going to get back and I know if I’m out here being shady and reckless that that’s what I will get back in return. I show as much love as I can and not try to put a limit on it.
