Meet Cristina Mardirossian of Pasadena Trauma Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cristina Mardirossian.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Cristina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I knew in my freshman year of college that I wanted to be a Trauma Therapist. I currently am in private practice in Pasadena as a Marriage and Family Therapist, specializing in working with trauma survivors (predominately with sexual abuse survivors). I was introduced to sexual abuse when I was 15 years old, when one of my best friends was raped. I had no idea how to help her or be of support at such a young age. When I attended college, I joined a group called “Students Stopping Rape” to better understand trauma and how I could be of support to those who had experienced it. At that point in my life, several of my friends had shared their trauma stories with me and I was more than willing to learn more.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road to becoming a therapist is not an easy one. Besides going to school to get a masters, one must also do 3000 hours as part of their internship, as well as take two exams in order to become a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Let me tell you, you learn a whole lot about yourself throughout the process. My master’s program encouraged all students to seek out their own psychotherapy, to see what it would be like on the other side of the couch. That was one of the best and most difficult aspects to the road to getting licensed. Therapy was a place for me to not only address my own personal struggles, but also how to separate your issues from what your clients are going through.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Pasadena Trauma Therapy – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist as well as a Certified EMDR therapist in Pasadena, CA. I have provided outpatient individual and group therapy throughout the Los Angeles and San Gabriel Valley areas to teens and adults on a variety of issues, ranging from trauma, anxiety, depression, gang affiliation/involvement, drug and alcohol abuse, etc.

I currently work predominately with adult trauma survivors (sexual abuse, emotional abuse, neglect, physical abuse, dissociation, incest, etc). I am known for being a Trauma Specialist in the Pasadena area. I also have several groups (for both men and women) who are sexual abuse survivors.

I am most proud of having a business that is incredibly fulfilling. I feel honored to work with the clients I see and be a part of their journey towards healing.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future in terms of my career is to offer workshops to train other therapists to work with trauma. I have also just started to offer one on one consultation to other therapists in the field who are needing help in improving their work with clients who are coming in to address trauma.
