Meet Courtney Colato of Haar Haus LA in Glendale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Colato.

Courtney, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve been behind the chair for almost 11 years now and I’ve always had the desire to start my own business. Just over two years ago I finally decided to take the jump up to the next level in my career and open Haar Haus LA. Haar Haus LA is my pride and joy and it captures who I really am thus extending that image to my clients. I am very earthly and care deeply about this planet. I use eco-friendly tools, products and an entire color line that won’t harm me or my clients! I believe in creating an experience for my clients everytime they walk through my doors. It’s my job not only to listen to them and create their hair or makeup dreams but also to make them feel amazing inside and out! 😊

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There are always rocks and loose dirt when you climb a mountain! Sometimes on the way up you slide back a little. Or sometimes you get stuck for a moment by a big rock. But with passion and determination, you always find a way to keep climbing!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Haar Haus LA – what should we know?
I have trained hard in most areas in the beauty industry but I’d say my specialty would be blondes! It’s one of my favorite things to do and I love all the different directions I can go with blondes! I also save a lot of blondes! People come to me with damaged hair and I always take them through my “blonde hair rehab!” It’s my duty to make sure the integrity of hair comes first and foremost! I can also rock a great men’s cut!!!

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I’ll start with my mother. She raised me as a single parent most my life and she showed me what a strong and powerful woman looked like. I knew with that kind of strength, and a mother’s love and support, that I owed it to her to become as strong and passionate as I possibly could be in this life!

Next would be my father. He has raised me since I was seven, because that’s when I met him, and he has been the most loving and supportive father anyone could ever ask for. He actually is not my biological father which his love all the more special to me. He was great motivation for me on starting my own business because that’s what he did with his career. And I’ve always admired that.

Last but not least, my husband. He is so incredible and so supportive towards my dreams and my career goals. He has been with me every step of the way no matter how hard some days were. I literally could not have done this without him!!
