Meet Cletus Nunes of Casoro Jewelry Safes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cletus Nunes.

Hi Cletus, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Shep and Nancy Bryan, have been producing safes for 30 years, initially offering traditional options and expanding in 2012 to offer custom jewelry and watch safes tailored for clients who desire a bespoke luxury product. It started with one customer who said she wished she could have a more elegant safe for her Jewelry, and we listened. It was clear from the start that clients needed a more bespoke, elegant and functional safe that was durable enough to survive fire and burglar attacks.
When you hear the word bespoke, you might think of a tailored suit or a custom piece of furniture. The same principle applies to a jewelry safe. For years, clients were dissatisfied with mass-produced safes but believed they had no alternative. We recognized that safes designed for the “average” customer simply weren’t enough. That’s why we created Casoro—to build truly bespoke safes tailored to each individual client, without ever compromising on security or fire protection.
As time passed and we grew, the Casoro team has remained focused on current design trends and premium materials and craftsmanship while continually deepening our understanding of the needs of our most discerning clients. It is not enough to simply build Underwriters Laboratories (UL)–rated safes for burglary and fire protection; each safe must also meet the unique lifestyle, aesthetic, and security requirements of its owner. Security that’s tailored to you.
We never forget how we get started, so we listen to our customers. We are constantly innovating by incorporating higher-quality materials and distinctive design elements that complement both primary estates and seasonal residences.
They love that they don’t have to sacrifice beauty, elegance and functionality for security and protection.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We build custom solutions so challenges never cease to exist. We could take the easy road and just have a set of products, but that is not what our clients want. The inside of your safe is where your jewelry and watches will live, so the layout should be as beautiful as it is functional. A thoughtfully designed interior protects your pieces from scratches and tangles while making it a pleasure to select your accessories for the day.
As Casoro evolved, the challenge became learning how to accommodate virtually any space, design vision, and security requirement. As mentioned above, we don’t simply build safes—we create bespoke security solutions tailored to each client, protecting jewelry, watches, cash, and other valuable assets. This level of customization keeps us constantly challenged and sharply focused.
Because we work with hand-selected woods and custom finishes, we’ve had to master how more than 50 different wood species behave over time. For instance, oily exotic woods are prone to warping or separation. Through experience and innovation, we developed specialized methods for constructing large watch winder panels from these materials, ensuring they remain stable and intact for years to come. Then applying finishes to the wood or the exterior, to ensure an auto-grade finish for durability, was essential for establishing our product and brand.
It doesn’t stop there. It helps to consider that when a two-hour fire rating and a UL burglary rating of TL15 is introduced, safes become large, heavy, and visually intrusive, creating significant design and engineering challenges. At Casoro, our team works closely with builders, architects, and designers to address both aesthetic goals and structural requirements, delivering uncompromising security and fire protection without sacrificing elegance or client experience. Casoro assists in evaluating the best location for the safe and provides guidance on structural strength considerations involved in staircases, floors and wardrobe systems.
Education is central to our white-glove approach. We guide clients, designers, and builders while providing the in-house expertise required to simplify complex decisions and ensure the right solution from the outset. However, it’s always a challenge to reach all of our audience with the realities of protecting what matters most to them.
We have to help customers avoid being lulled into a false sense of security thinking they are safe because they live in a gated community while the reality is that this makes them more of a target. With sophisticated burglaries in high-end neighborhoods on the rise, we need homeowners to wake up to the fact that they need a safe. It’s an unpleasant thought for most. Once they do start to understand the realities of the situation, they don’t know how to evaluate the security of various safe providers. This is where Casoro can help, educating and guiding clients to safes that provide convenient organization, as well as the protection they need and that their insurance companies require.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Casoro Jewelry Safes?
I’ve touched on the importance of our high-security, UL-rated safes, and that clients expect more than protection alone. I have also touched on how today’s clients also want a safe they genuinely enjoy interacting with and protects what they are passionate about. It goes without saying, that a safe is intuitive, refined, and beautifully designed, owners are far more likely to store their most precious jewelry and watches properly—enhancing both daily enjoyment and long-term security.
Achieving this is what we are most proud of, for example, Casoro’s California-built safes offer the very best craftsmanship. We source more than 37 wood species, ranging from traditional selections to rare and exotic options such as Black Limba, Macassar, Bocote, Bubinga, and Mango. We also offer an extensive range of hardware options—including client-provided hardware—to ensure every detail aligns seamlessly with the surrounding décor.
Leather can be integrated into our designs, though many clients are increasingly choosing high-quality man-made leather alternatives for their durability, sustainability, and consistency. We continuously research, test, and introduce what we believe to be the finest watch winders available, along with advanced security technologies such as our Safe-Tracker system and integration into existing alarm systems, delivering an elevated level of protection.
Our safe exteriors are finished using automotive-grade paints and coatings, allowing for precise color matching to interior closet designs and even the integration of millwork from our closet partners.
The team works closely across an ecosystem of architects, builders and designers, as the safe both looks and functions their best when they are incorporated into the decor right from the beginning of the project.
Beyond custom fabrication, Casoro has built a trusted national network of white-glove installers who understand how to work with prestigious clientele. Discretion, craftsmanship, and trust are essential to our success. We go far beyond what a traditional safe company provides—educating design and construction partners, managing technical complexities internally, and assisting designers and insurance professionals in understanding the ratings of existing safes.
In some cases, we help clients avoid unnecessary replacement by confirming that their current safe already meets their insurance carrier’s requirements.
Our mission is to be a one-stop partner for consumers, designers, builders, and insurance professionals. We strive to be part of the solution—not another problem.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Tough question! Several things come to mind for this question. First, helping clients understand their risks and providing them solutions is not easy and requires patience, understanding and good listening skills. You’re discussing their vulnerabilities which is not what people always want to hear. When we do our job right, this is turned into a positive for our client with renewed sense of safety and security, not to mention they love our safes.
Secondly, there is so much misinformation and sales pitches that it’s hard for clients or even designers to know what is accurate. We see them stuck in this search for who is telling them the truth. When they see the price jump for UL rated high security safes, they think they are being scammed. Underwriters Laboratories is an independent third-party testing and verification organization widely trusted by the insurance industry. They are an independent authority dedicated to establishing and validating standards across industries, from home construction and safes to electronics and automobiles. The problem is that it is a significant ongoing investment to meet those standards because of all the steel and fireproofing composite inside the body.
