Meet Christopher Hancock

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Hancock.

Christopher, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am an actor from Prince George’s County, Maryland. I attended Towson University for undergrad and studied a variety of majors. Initially I enrolled as a theatre major, but I didn’t like the curriculum, so I changed my major to Business Management. I also didn’t have much money growing up so I decided to switch my major to a field with more immediate job opportunities. With a degree in Marketing I immediately started working at Morgan Stanley in Baltimore, Maryland.

After two years at Morgan Stanley, I decided I wanted to work on Wall Street so I moved to Manhattan, NYC. I worked at Susquehanna where I obtained my brokerage/trading license, and then left to work for Credit Suisse. After living in New York for two years, I decided I didn’t want to work in Finance for the rest of my life. Immediately I started pursuing acting again by taking various classes in New York City as well as creating my own internet content. Some of my comedic sketches have surpassed 1 million views on the internet.

After doing sketches for two years, I decided to switch over and focus solely on booking acting roles. This was around 2018. Since then, I have starred on Investigation Discovery’s hit show, “Shattered,” appeared on the James Corden show, starred in commercials for Google, Target, Kodak, and several other well- known brands. What makes my journey unique, I think, is that I still work in finance while putting my all into acting. This involves getting little sleep and using vacation days for acting gigs. It’s a tough grind but I have the raw mentality to keep up with the challenges from both the finance and acting industry.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are definitely some challenges with my approach. On one hand, I am glad to have my job so that I can afford to live/pay bills. A lot of people tend to see actors in commercials and television and assume they’re all rich. While this may be true for some, there are a lot of actors still struggling to make ends meet. Depending on the production, it is very possible to be cast in projects that pay very little or nothing at all. This is the sacrifice I believe most beginning actors face when trying to grow their brand and build their acting reels. My job allows me to afford my lifestyle while focusing on my craft as an actor.

On the other hand, work also limits me from putting all of my time into acting. I spend roughly 55 hours a week at my job, and this is a lot of time to dedicate to something you aren’t fully passionate about. Also, a lot of projects are produced during business work hours, so I’m constantly faced with the task of deciding what roles I should/shouldn’t use my vacation days for.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
As an Actor located in New York City and Los Angeles, California, I am best known for my lead role on the hit TV show, “Shattered,” on the Investigation Discovery Channel, my guest appearance on the “Late Late Show with James Corden,” and a role on “Godfather of Harlem,” starring Forest Whitaker. I’ve also done a lot of commercial work with top brands such as MLB, Google, Kodak, Target, Gravity Blankets & more. Recently I have signed with talent agencies in both New York and LA and am looking to continue growing within the industry. What sets me apart, in my opinion, is my potential and drive. Also, I am extremely confident in my abilities and dedication to the craft. I believe this will allow me to have a career I deem successful.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I have enjoyed all of the film sets I have been on. Each project, big or small, has helped shaped my career in some way. If I had to narrow it down to one moment, I would say I felt the best about booking my lead role on the television show, “Shattered.” This was the first time in my career I was able to play lead on a network television show.  It felt amazing. I do, however, appreciate every project that I have been a part of. This industry is highly competitive and I don’t take anything for granted.
