Meet Christina St Cyr of Slater & Sullivan’s

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina St Cyr.

Christina St Cyr

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Meet the Boys…two rescued terrier mixes. Slater (seven years old) and Sullivan (four years old)…and the story behind the name of our business…and our WHY! Being the passionate Dog family, that we are, I’ve been making and feeding wholesome dog food to our Boys, for over five years now…so, that they have the best chance, for the healthiest and happiest lives possible! Our oldest pup, Slater, who was about two years old at the time, had food allergies and we almost lost him several times, due to anaphylactic shock…which we believed was caused from something that we were feeding him in his store-bought processed kibble. So…to know exactly what was in his food and to eliminate the cause, I started making wholesome food for him. Since then, Slater hasn’t had one episode! Both of our boys are thriving, happy, healthy and vibrate with excitement when it’s feeding time! This business journey will not only fill my heart with joy…it will fulfill my passion for cooking and my/our extreme love for dogs! It is my hope that, by making wholesome food, it will help contribute to fur babies living their healthiest and best lives possible, in the short amount of time that we have with them on earth! We believe that every pup deserves some wholesome goodness in their diet today and EVERY DAY! Our goal is to also donate a portion of our proceeds, as well as our food, to local non-profit animal rescues.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the biggest obstacles that we encountered…was finding out that making dog food out of our home was not legit, and, never would be. We had already established many regular customers…so, we had to decide if we would invest the money in securing a commercial, certified kitchen and doing all of the necessary steps in making SLATER & SULLIVAN’S a legit business…or, end our business, that we had already invested our heart and soul into. With the unconditional support of my hubby, daughters, family, friends, and all of my amazing small business friends…we decided to take SLATER & SULLIVAN’S to the next level, and we became a legit business in September 2023! It has not been easy, financially, since securing our commercial kitchen…but, as with any small business, it takes time, passion, energy and a ton of “blood, sweat and tears”, to succeed! We are extremely grateful for all of the love and support we’ve been shown so far and to have you and your pups a part of the SLATER & SULLIVAN’S FAMILY! We are so excited to see what the future holds! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about SLATER & SULLIVAN’S?
