Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Apirian.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Rachel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I spent over 10 years in the luxury fashion and beauty industries in New York City. A global traveler and content creator, I’ve worked for brands like Donna Karan Collection, Bloomingdale’s and Louis Vuitton. After leaving my corporate job to travel abroad for 7 months, exploring my love of photography, I moved to Los Angeles. I never believed it before as a die-hard New Yorker, but west really is best. I love everything about California and my lifestyle here. I established Chasing August as a creative outlet to showcase my travels and style.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been a long road and one that I’m still on, in discovering what I actually want to do and how to monetize that. I love telling stories through images and creating unique content. My own blog is one way that I do that as well as consulting for small businesses to help with their marketing and social media campaigns. Leaving a corporate job meant a big salary cut and some instability, but it also means the freedom to execute my own vision.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
As a marketing and social media consultant, I work with clients to assess opportunities and execute strong marketing strategies. I help them to define a look and feel and create unique content that is authentic to their brand. As an influencer myself, I also create content for brands who hire me to feature them on my own blog and Instagram. I work with companies who I already know and love and are authentic to my life. I specifically love brands that align with my love of travel. I’ve been to nearly 50 countries (hoping to hit #5-0 soon!) and believe an understanding of international markets sets me apart.
What were you like growing up?
Recently, I watched a few home movies I came across. Absolutely nothing has changed! I was born a very girly girl (decked out in jewelry, namely stick-on earrings, pretending to model and sketching my Barbie’s looks) into a very outdoorsy family. So my dresses were always paired with sneakers. I grew up camping, hiking, sailing and skiing. Being outdoors so much, I realize that my parents gave me the greatest gift, a love of nature and a happy place to always come back to.
