Meet Caroline Clarke

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caroline Clarke.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started working through the tarot with the intention of only illustrating the major arcana. Once started, I couldn’t stop. Something about the bold and mysterious imagery pushed me to complete the task everyday with fervor. As the mother of two small children, time is limited. Every night after putting them to bed, I rushed to begin working on my next card. It became a meditative process that really got me through some long and stressful days. The vision was to create a beautiful deck in my own style to hopefully inspire more contemplation and serenity into someone else’s journey. And so, in five months of serious dedication and inspiration Tarot by Caro was born!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Finding a balance between being a mother to two small children and a full-time artist is always a struggle. It requires making every free moment productive which is most definitely easier said than done.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Before my introduction to working digitally, I worked primarily in intricate pen and ink drawings with little to no color. Working digitally has opened me up to a new world of color that I never dreamed possible. What sets my Tarot by Caro deck apart from others is its bold palette paired with my simple and unique folk-like illustrative style.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Making this deck was a saving grace during this pandemic. Being able to channel anxiety and uncertainty into something productive and beautiful made me feel powerful! Art as stress management is a must!
